VANDALSIM

Officer Scott Chanthaphouvong was dispatched to Toll Gate High School, 575 Centerville Road, at approximately 6:34 a.m. on Aug. 11 in reference to a vandalism complaint. Upon arrival, Chanthaphouvong met with the complainant, a member of the Warwick School Department. He told Chanthaphouvong he was advised by an employee at around 6:14 a.m. that there was damage to four large windows on the connecting bridge closest to the main entrance of the school. He said the windows were last seen undamaged on Aug. 7. Chanthaphouvong said he did observe four damaged windows, which a sergeant took digital photographs of. The complainant then said rocks were found inside the building, which may have come from a construction site under the bridge. The complainant said no other damage to the school property was observed, but he said the school department wished to press charges against the suspects responsible. He also told Chanthaphouvong he would have staff review the surveillance cameras. No suspects or witnesses.

STOLEN TRUCK RECOVERED

Officer Robert Canis-Langlais was dispatched to Bend Street at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 9 for a motor vehicle theft. Upon arrival, Canis-Langlais met with a man, who said he was in his house the night before until approximately 1 a.m. He said his pickup truck was in the driveway at that time, but when he responded out the next day at about 1 p.m., his truck was gone. He said the paint on the truck was in new condition and the moldings and chrome were in good condition. He also said the vehicle had a cracked windshield, a Harley Davidson sticker on the rear window, and new tires. He said there was one key left inside of the vehicle.

On Aug. 10, at approximately 10 a.m., Officer Joseph DeDonato responded to the parking lot across from 1146 Narragansett Parkway in reference to a recovered stolen auto. Upon arrival at the scene, DeDonato met with the reporting party, who said on the prior day, his neighbor’s truck was stolen from his driveway on Bend Street. On the following the day, the man indicated he had received a text message from someone indicating they thought the truck was in a parking lot across from 1146 Narragansett Parkway. DeDonato said it should be noted the man posted the incident on a Facebook site that covered the community of Warwick. The person who observed the truck in the parking lot observed the information from the website and emailed the neighbor regarding the truck. The man (neighbor) said when he responded to the parking lot, he did observe the subject who had emailed him, waiting for him there and pointing out the truck to him, which the man verified was his neighbor’s. He contacted his neighbor, who could not respond from work, and then he contacted Warwick Police. DeDonato said he responded to the scene and verified the vehicle as an actively stolen vehicle out of the city of Warwick. DeDonato said he observed what appeared to be fresh fingerprints on the driver’s side portion of the door and window and requested that detectives respond to the scene, which they did a short time later. The vehicle as processed and subsequently turned over to the reporting party (neighbor), who said he would be willing to turn the truck over to his neighbor (owner). DeDonato said the vehicle was then released to the owner’s neighbor and officers cleared the scene.

WARRANT

Officer Christopher Lo was in a marked Warwick Police Department cruiser traveling westbound on Easton Avenue at approximately 5:55 p.m. on Aug. 16 when he observed a vehicle take a left hand turn from Easton Avenue on to Meader Street without using its turn signal and failing to stop at the clearly posted stop sign at Easton Avenue and Meader Street. Lo said he followed the vehicle and attempted to pull it over in the area of Kiwanee Road and Ralston Street. Lo said he identified the operator as Henry G. Betances Chavez, 19, of 29 Tall Timber Trail, North Smithfield, and the front seat passenger identified himself as Anthony Neal but failed to provide Lo with any identification. Upon returning to his cruiser and running checks on both Chavez and Neal, Lo said he learned the passenger, identified as Anthony Neal, 22, of 199 Winthrop Street, Woonsocket, had a warrant affidavit out of the Woonsocket Police Department for the Violation of a Protective Order. Lo said Communications was able to confirm the warrant was still active. A short time later, another officer arrived on scene, at which time Neal was removed from the vehicle, searched for weapons yielding negative results, and was arrested and transported to the Warwick Police Department Headquarters, where he was fingerprinted and processed. Lo said the warrant was removed and Neal was held for the Woonsocket Police Department to arrive and take custody. Chavez was issued a citation for Obedience to Stop Sign and was released from the scene.

SHOPLIFTING

Officer Stephen Major was dispatched to the J. C. Penney store at Warwick Mall, 400 Bald Hill Road, at approximately 3:27 p.m. on Aug. 14 in reference to a shoplifter in custody. Major said he placed Gonzalez in handcuffs and transported him to Warwick Police Headquarters, where he was jailed and processed without incident. Before leaving, he said he obtained a video of the shoplifting, which was subsequently entered into evidence, and a receipt for the item, which was submitted to Records. Major said Gonzalez signed his District Court Summons for the Shoplifting, but then due to the fact that he had a Failure to Appear for Arraignment on a charge of Driving With a Suspended License, he was put on a Hold Without Bail warrant and was transported to the ACI in Cranston. Gonzalez was charged with one count of Shoplifting – Misdemeanor.

As if there isn't enough vandalism in Warwick, now we have to deal with "vandalsim"!

I wonder if the same tykes responsible for the imPOSSIBLE Dream damage are responsible for the TGHS damage right around the bend? I think Scooby Doo could solve that one.
