STOLEN CAR

Officer Julio Benros responded to Wal-Mart at 840 Post Road at 10:50 a.m. on Aug. 27 for a stolen motor vehicle. Upon arrival, Benros met with a woman, who reported her vehicle, described as a green 1998 Honda Civic, as stolen. The woman said she had parked her vehicle at approximately 10:30 at Wal-Mart and entered the store. Upon exiting the store a short time later, she discovered her vehicle was missing and stolen from the parking lot.

Upon review of video surveillance, Benros said it was confirmed that the woman parked her vehicle at approximately 10:37 in the parking lot at Wal-Mart. A male suspect with a dark skin tone, wearing a red T-shirt, brown/tan shorts, and work boots, approximately 5’10” to 6’1”, had entered her vehicle at approximately 10:47 and had driven it out of the parking lot without the consent of its owner. Benros said the vehicle then turned left and traveled southerly onto Post Road.

Benros said, based on the surveillance video and the vehicle not being located by its owner, who said she had not allowed anyone to drive her a vehicle, a stolen motor vehicle report was taken and the vehicle was entered into NCIC and RILETS as stolen. Detectives were notified of the surveillance video for possible identification, which was entered into evidence at Warwick Police Station headquarters, and the report was forwarded to Detectives for follow-up. No suspects.

BENCH

WARRANT

Officer Matthew Higgins was on patrol in a marked cruiser in the area of East Avenue and Pontiac Street at 6:17 p.m. on Sept. 4, at which time he observed a vehicle pass him traveling west on East Avenue with a passenger that appeared to not being wearing a seat belt.

After initiating a vehicle stop and making contact with the operator and occupants, Higgins said all occupants presented the necessary identification. Upon running checks on the occupants, he said it was determined the operator did not have a valid driver’s license and one of the passengers, identified as Cassandra L. Stevens, 35, of 27 Hoxsie Court, Coventry, had an active bench warrant for Failure to Appear for Ability to Pay, on an original charge of Domestic – Disorderly Conduct, out of Third District Court.

Higgins said Stevens was subsequently removed from the vehicle, taken into custody and transported to Warwick Police Department headquarters, where she was booked and processed for the warrant, then transported to the Women’s Intake at the A.C.I. The warrant was located and removed from RILETS.

The operator of the vehicle was issued a Summons for Driving Without a License, and the vehicle was driven from the scene by one of the occupants.

VANDALISM

Officer Christopher Lo was dispatched to the front parking lot of City Park on Aug. 23 for a larceny. The reporting party said the front passenger window of her vehicle had been smashed out and the vehicle had been rummaged through.

Upon arrival, Lo spoke with the victim, who said she had parked her vehicle around 3 p.m. and walked for approximately an hour. After the walk, she responded back to her vehicle and noted the vehicle was intact. She said she then left the park around 4 p.m. and returned back approximately a half-hour later and observed the damage. Lo said he assisted the woman with checking the vehicle to ensure there was no property missing, to which she said there wasn’t. Lo said he also did a check of the other parking lots but did not observe any other vehicles at the time that had the same damage. A report was taken to document the vandalism.

MISSING TRUCK

BATTERIES

Officer Darren Parrillo responded to Gilmore Furniture at 10:10 a.m. on Aug. 24 in reference to a larceny from a motor vehicle. Upon arrival, Parrillo met with the reporting party, who said he noticed someone stole two truck batteries from one of the vehicles, which are valued at approximately $800 for the pair. He said the rear registration plate was also removed from the same vehicle.

At this time, the man told Parrillo there is no video surveillance. Parrillo advised him that due to the ongoing issue with the theft of batteries, he recommended parking the vehicles in a better lit area and possibly in front of the business in order to inhibit the ability to have any suspects around the vehicle without being noticed. No suspects.

BROKEN

WINDOW

Officer Michael Harris was dispatched to the Park and Ride on Centerville Road at 2 a.m. on Aug. 23 for the report of a larceny from a motor vehicle. Once on scene, Harris met with the reporting party, who said she parked her vehicle at the Park and Ride at approximately 6 p.m. on Aug. 22. She said she attended an event at Foxwoods Casino and then returned to her vehicle at approximately 2 a.m., at which time she observed the right rear window to be broken out of her vehicle and that entry was gained into the vehicle through the broken window. She told Harris she was missing several items, which included: $50 in cash; hairdressing supplies; an un-cashed check; work records for her hairdressing business; and a cat litter box. Harris said he checked the surrounding parking lot but did not observe any other vehicles to be targeted.

On Aug. 24, Harris said the woman contacted him at Warwick Police Department headquarters and advised him she had two electronic devices and two prescription medications stolen from her vehicle during the event that she had not noticed until the following day.
