KEYED

Officer Patrick Smith was dispatched to Idaho Avenue at 1:12 p.m. on Sept. 25 for the report of a malicious damage, with a vehicle that had been keyed.

Upon arrival, Smith met with the reporting party, who said on Sept. 19, she noticed her vehicle had been keyed along the passenger side. She pointed out the damage to her vehicle. Smith said he observed a scratch mark approximately 4 inches below the handles of the door, starting in the rear quarter panel on the passenger side going without breakage to the front passenger door. The damage appeared consistent with that of the vehicle being keyed.

The woman said on the following day, her girlfriend’s vehicle (which was parked in the front of the house on Idaho Avenue) was also observed to have damage to it, which she described as also being keyed. The woman identified her friend, but Smith said she was not on scene and could not be reached. He gave the woman the report number and told her to have her friend call police to provide an additional statement to be included with the report.

The woman told Smith the house across the street may have also had a car that was keyed. Smith said he spoke with neighbor there, who said when the woman told her about the keying incident, she noticed damage to her vehicle and believed it was keyed as well. Smith said the neighbor showed him the damage to her vehicle, which was not key damage but was consistent with scraping something very low to the vehicle, possibly a bush, but it was definitely not key damage. A report was taken to document the incident.

CRACKED GLASS

Officer James Wenneman was dispatched to Norwood Avenue at 4:47 p.m. on Sept. 27 for a possible malicious damage. Once on scene, Wenneman made contact with the reporting party, who said he left his house that day at approximately 2 p.m. and returned at 4. At that time, he noticed on the backside of the house that the door leading to the backyard was damaged.

Upon closer examination, the man discovered it looked like something had hit the door, possibly a pellet or a stone that had cracked the glass in the door. Wenneman said the glass is a two-paned glass and it was the exterior glass that had cracked. The back part of the glass remained in tact. Wenneman said it does look like there was an impact point, however no rock, pellet, or BB could be found in or about the area of the back door. No witnesses.

STOLEN BIKES

Officer Eric Lima was dispatched to a residence on Greenwich Avenue at 4:27 p.m. on Sept. 18 for the report of a larceny of bicycles.

Upon arrival, Lima was met by a woman, who said after she had returned home from work she had been informed by her roommates that their bicycles had been stolen. She said she last saw their bicycles where they were stored underneath the staircase on the first floor inside of the building nearest the left side/back door. She said her bike was locked between the wheel and its frame. She described her bike as being a Road Master 26-inch bicycle valued at $84.84 and said she wished to file a complaint.

Lima said he then met with another woman, who advised she had last seen her bike locked to the staircase in building A on Sept. 17. She said on Sept. 18 at approximately 2:30 p.m. she had gone to check on her bicycle and observed it to be missing. She described her bicycle as being a pink 24-inch Mongoose valued at approximately $90 and said she also wished to file a complaint.

Lima last met with the third roommate, who said he last observed his bike locked under the staircase in building A on Sept. 17 and on the morning of Sept. 18, he observed his bike, a black 27-inch “Trayl” bicycle valued at approximately $340, to be missing along with the bikes of his two roommates. He also wished to file a complaint.

Lima said a check of the area for surveillance cameras and potential witnesses was unsuccessful. The case will be forwarded to Detectives.

LARCENY

Officer Joshua Myer was dispatched to an apartment at Willow Glen Circle at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 27 for the report of a larceny from a motor vehicle.

Upon arrival, Myer spoke with a man, who said his vehicle was broken into overnight. He said there was no damage done to his vehicle and that he did leave the doors unlocked the previous evening. He said when he went out to the car, he saw that his items were thrown around the car and that three pairs of sunglasses (valued at approximately $80 each), two GPS systems (valued at approximately $500 each), $200 in cash, and some change were missing from the vehicle.

The man said that it had to have happened sometime overnight. He said he last saw the vehicle intact sometime the previous day. Myer said there was no video footage of the crime. The report will be forwarded to Detectives for follow-up. No suspects.

SHOPLIFTING

Officer Manuel Pacheco and another officer were dispatched to the 7-Eleven located at 2080 Warwick Avenue at 10:04 p.m. on Sept. 26 for the report of a shoplifting in progress. Dispatch advised that the reporting party had said a subject had stolen a carton of cigarettes before running out toward the Coastway Community Bank.

Upon arrival, Pacheco responded to the store while the other officer checked the area. Pacheco said he met with the reporting party, who said at about 10 p.m., he was working at the 7-Eleven when a skinny male (approximately in his 50s, with dirty facial hair, wearing a dark-colored hoodie) approached the counter and asked for two cartons of Newport Shorts (valued at $84 each). The employee said he advised the man he only had one carton left, at which time the male asked for a price check. Upon checking the price, the employee said the carton was $84. The man then asked for 10 additional packs of cigarettes. The employee said he placed the carton on the counter and turned around to get the additional packs, at which time the male grabbed the carton and ran out of the store, passing all final points of purchase but failing to pay for the merchandise. The employee said the man then ran across Warwick Avenue westbound down the area of Ansonia Road. At this time, Pacheco said a canine unit arrived on scene and attempted a track.
