MISSING PHONE

On Oct. 30 at 1:27 p.m., Officer Rose Michel was dispatched to the lobby for a report of a larceny. Upon arrival, she met with the reporting party, who said on the morning of Oct. 24, she lost her cell phone on the grounds of the St. Rose of Lima Parish, 111 Long Street. Later that day, she attempted to locate her phone using an iPhone application, which showed the phone was located at 12 Tourtelot Avenue. The phone was described as a white iPhone 6 with a blue case, which contained a New York driver’s license, Providence College ID card, a gift card, and a bank debit card. She told Michel her Social Security number was saved in her phone, but she was unable to provide the phone’s serial number. She said she contacted her bank and cancelled the debit card and there had been no unauthorized transactions made to the card. In Michel’s presence, she attempted to again locate the phone using the application, however it stated the phone could not be located. Michel said she attempted, unsuccessfully, to locate the phone at 12 Tourtelot Avenue, which came to an empty lot.

HEROIN

On Oct. 31 at 6:34 p.m., Officer Jacob Elderkin was conducting a routine check of the parking lot at Motel 6, 20 Jefferson Boulevard, when he observed the registration on a gray 1991 Toyota Corolla with a registered owner that came back as Joseph J. Mrozewicz, 63, of 27 River Street, West Warwick, who had an active Hold Without Bail warrant for his arrest out of Superior Court.

After failed attempts to locate Mrozewicz in the motel, Elderkin said he made a final pass through the rear parking lot where the vehicle was parked and observed a male operator and female passenger and immediately identified the operator as Mrozewicz after viewing multiple arrest photos of him. Elderkin approached the vehicle, had Mrozewicz step out of the vehicle and took him into custody. During a pat down of the female passenger, Elderkin located an empty plastic baggie that appeared to have contained a powdery substance, which the woman admitted was heroin.

During a search of the vehicle, Elderkin located a brown leather pouch, which contained a glass stem used for smoking crack and a baggie containing a brown powder, which later field tested positive for 1 gram of heroin. Elderkin also discovered a receipt from Fall River Pawn Brokers in Providence that showed two watches had been pawned a few days prior. During further conversation with Mrozewicz, it was learned he received the watches from a friend of his named Miguel (he couldn’t provide a last name), who he said has been involved in several breakings and enterings in Providence on Union Avenue and Linwood Avenue and that the watches may have come from one of those breaking and enterings. The Providence Police Department was then contacted and made aware of the information for their investigation.

Mrozewicz was transported to Warwick Police headquarters, where he was printed, photographed and processed. He was charged with one count of Possession of Schedule I, being heroin, and was also brought in on the warrant, which was later removed. Elderkin said Mrozewicz is currently being held for the Bail Commissioner to be arraigned on the heroin charge and would later be transported to the Adult Correctional Institution.

DRUGS

On Oct. 30 at 5:24 p.m., Officer Chea Sokphannareth and Officer Arico were dispatched to Pocono Drive for a check condition emergency. Dispatch advised a man was leaving his house when he saw a car running with a male slumped over the steering wheel. He said he beeped at him but got no response and the car’s lights were on and it was running.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the male subject who woke up when one of the officer’s tapped him. He was alert and conscious and when asked what happened, told officers he was tired from work and he had pulled over to rest. After locating the man’s wallet, he was identified as John Martini, 26, of 82 Weetamoe Drive, Warwick. When asked if he had consumed any alcoholic beverages or drugs that day, he said “No.” Martini was observed to have a pale face and appeared to be very sleepy, possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Although no contraband was located on him during a pat down, officers did find a bent spoon. When asked why he had a bent spoon in his pocket, Martini said he didn’t know.

After consenting to a vehicle check, officers discovered Q-tips and a small plastic jar that contained two substances, a dirty, brown powdery substance that later field tested positive for 0.9 grams of heroin and a white solid substance that tested positive for 0.3 grams of cocaine. When asked if he had taken any drugs or medication, Martini said he took suboxone and klonopin that morning.

Martini was then taken into custody and transported to Warwick Police headquarters, where he was fingerprinted, processed, and then held to await the Bail Commissioner. He was charged with two counts of Possession of Schedule I, II, III, IV, V, one for heroin and one for cocaine.
