TRAILER TAKEN

On June 20 at 9:47 a.m., Officer Brian Murray met with a man in the lobby of Warwick Police headquarters in regards to someone stealing his trailer. The man said around 7 that morning, he received a call from a parking attendant at a church in Providence, located at 70 Jefferson Street. The parking attendant told him his trailer was in the lot and they wanted to know why it was there. The man then looked outside and realized his trailer was missing from across the street. He then responded to 70 Jefferson Street and noticed the locks to the trailer were broken. When he looked inside, the man noticed his National 5700 HS floor stripper machine (all day battery powered), valued at $35,000, as well as a Sinclair floor stripping machine, valued at $3,500, hand tools, hammers, brooms, and other items, was missing.

The man said his neighbor told him she saw the trailer in the yard at around 8 a.m. on the prior day. Murray said the man is attempting to obtain serial numbers for the machinery equipment taken and is attempting to determine if there is any video surveillance in the parking lot at 400 Strawberry Field Road.

SHOPLIFTING

On June 25 at 1:15 p.m., Sergeant Palumbo received information that there was a possible hit and run in front of Nordstrom Rack at 400 Bald Hill Road. Prior to Officer Darren Parrillo’s arrival, Dispatch advised that they had just received a call that this is possibly related to a shoplifting at Nordstrom Rack.

Upon arrival, Warwick Mall security were out with a male subject, later identified as Dale Anthony Sionni, 34, of 27 Swan Street, East Providence, who had apparently shoplifted from Nordstrom Rack. When he had exited the store with the merchandise, he began walking over to a vehicle, possibly bearing Pennsylvania passenger plates, on a rental Nissan Pathfinder, with an unknown male operator. That vehicle apparently got alerted to Loss Prevention, who was attempting to apprehend Sionni. At that time, the vehicle fled the area, but in doing so, it struck Sionni, causing him to get pushed into loss prevention personnel.

Warwick Fire & Rescue responded to the scene, however Sionni refused medical attention. Sionni was then transported to Warwick Police headquarters, where he was processed.

A loss prevention associate from Nordstrom Rack said the store wanted to press charges against Sionni and have him trespassed from all Nordstrom properties. The total of the merchandise recovered was $399.85.

Sionni was charged with one count of shoplifting and later released with a District Court summons to appear at Kent County Courthouse.

OBTAINING MONEY BY FALSE PRETENSES

On June 17 at 6:41 p.m., Officer Quentin Tavares was dispatched to the lobby of Warwick Police headquarters for the report of a fraud. Dispatch advised the reporting party said her food stamps card had been stolen.

Upon arrival, Tavares met with the woman, who said on June 4 she had gone out at 9 p.m. at the Phenix Hotel and was attempting to smoke a cigarette. While looking for cigarettes in her purse, she took several pouches out of her purse, including her wallet, and placed them on the steps below. While smoking, she forgot to put the items back in her purse. She said another man (unknown description) was outside at the time. After her cigarette, she said she went back but noticed her belongings had been taken, including her food stamps card, her ID, and her Social Security card.

The woman said she received another food stamps card, however, upon reviewing recent purchases, she noticed that on June 5, a purchase was made in the amount of $220.87 at the Stop & Shop located at 575 Greenwich Avenue in Warwick, which she did not make. She said she wishes to press charges. She was advised video surveillance would be reviewed and she would be notified of the findings.

Tavares said on June 21 he was able to get in touch with Stop & Shop Loss Prevention, who advised they could not look at the video from that day by policy. They said a request would be needed through email to Stop & Shop headquarters to look for the transaction in question. The case was forwarded to detectives.

DRIVING WITHOUT/EXPIRED

LICENSE

On June 23, Officer Aaron Steere was traveling southbound on Interstate 95 in a marked patrol unit, when he observed a vehicle pulling up alongside him in the high-speed lane. The vehicle was described as a red 2005 Chevy work van bearing Connecticut registration. As the vehicle pulled up alongside Steere, who was traveling at or about the posted speed limit (55 MPH), he saw the passenger in the van looked down at his patrol unit, at which time the vehicle continued to pass by Steere at a high rate of speed. Steere said he clocked the vehicle at speeds in excess of 80 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. Based on the speeding violation, Steere conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of Exit 13. Steere advised Dispatch of his location, then made a passenger side approach of the vehicle.

Steere made contact with the operator of the vehicle, who identified himself as Wellington De Oliveira, 26. Steere advised him he was being stopped for speeding and asked if the man knew the speed limit on that section of the highway. De Oliveira said the speed limit was 55 and that he was in a rush to get to another job in Westerly. When asked for driver’s license, registration, and proof of insurance, De Oliveira provided a registration showing him out of 686 Hart Street in Bridgeport, Conn. He said he had an international driver’s license, however he had left it in a jet ski and did not currently have any identification on him. De Oliveira told Steere he was from Brazil and had been in the United States for about nine years, but said he was having immigration issues and has been unable to obtain a driver’s license.

Steere had Dispatch run checks through Rhode Island and Connecticut, both for license data and criminal history. Both checked negative. Due to De Oliveira operating without a license and the fact that his passenger, who also claimed to be from Brazil and did not have a license, a tow was called to the scene.

De Oliveira was later taken into custody and transported to Warwick Police headquarters by Officer Higgins. Upon arrival, De Oliveira was processed and confined to a cell. ICE checks were run through Dispatch, but at the time of this report, no checks had been received back. De Oliveira told Steere he had contacts with Immigration officials in Connecticut four months ago and he had been fingerprinted at that time. Steere said the AFIS system did confirm this and showed he has no warrants or detainers at this time.

De Oliveira was issued a Warwick Municipal Court summons charging him with speeding, 1-10 MPH over, with a pay-by-mail fine of $96 and/or an optional Municipal Court date. De Oliveira was also issued a District Court summons charging him with driving without/expired license, with a mandatory District Court date, and later released.
