SUICIDE SUSPECTED
Captain Joseph Coffey confirmed yesterday that police had cordoned off the entrance to city land at Rocky Point early Saturday after responding to a report that there was a body hanging near the entrance to the park. While the investigation is ongoing, Coffey said the case appears to be a suicide. He said the man was in his 50s and a resident of the area. He did not identify the man.

DUMPER ARRESTED
Officer Manuel Pacheco reported a call about someone dumping mattresses and other items behind a building at the corner of Norwood and Acorn Avenues around 12:20 p.m. on Aug. 11. He said he arrived to find a pickup truck backed up to the wooded area in the far corner of the lot. He said he asked both men for identification and they both had IDs from another country: one form Honduras and one from the Dominican Republic. The subject from the Dominican Republic told Pacheco he had been in the country for 19 years without a green card. Pacheco said he had dispatch check to see if there were any Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) interest in either of the men and learned that the Dominican, identified as Andres O. Reyes, 50, of 4 Dresser St., Providence, had an active warrant out for him. Both men were issued tickets for illegal dumping and Reyes was taken to headquarters, where his identity was confirmed and he was held to await pick up from ICE.

GREY GOOSE CHASE
Officer William Castaldi said he was dispatched to the Target Plaza on Bald Hill Road around 2 p.m. on Aug. 9. Dispatch told him than an employee of Haxton’s Liquors down the road had followed a man and woman they said stole a bottle of Grey Goose vodka. Castaldi said he had a description of the suspects and saw them come out of the Famous Footwear store and were approaching them when an employee from Famous Footwear came out and said the $89.99 shoes the man was wearing were stolen from her store. She said a customer alerted her that the man took the new boots out of the box and put them on his feet and walked out without paying for them.
In the meantime, the manager from Haxton’s had already identified them as the people who took the vodka. Castaldi said he was going through the female suspect’s backpack when he found a dress, just as a manager from the Rainbow Shop approached and said the female in custody took the $5 dress from a rack in front of his store. He said the female, identified as Jacqueleen (sic) M. Ferguson, 41, of 939 Bernon St., Woonsocket, also admitted that weight loss pills and a bottle of cologne were taken from the Rite Aid store on Bald Hill Road as well, but when the items were scanned by the Rite Aid manager that turned out to be untrue, so Ferguson was charged with only two counts of shoplifting. Her companion, identified as Albert Herbert Jacques, 54, of 101 Colvington Rd., Coventry, was charged with two counts of shoplifting and one count of being a habitual offender.

SHOPLIFTING
A West Warwick woman was charged with being a habitual offender after the manager of the Family Dollar store at 1092 Post Rd. told police she and a man entered the store around 11 a.m. and walked around the store for a while before the man took three packs of Gillette razors and handed them to the woman and they both walked out of the store without paying for them. Officer Scott Chanthaphouvong reported he traced the license plate to Bald Hill Rentals, who told him it was rented to a West Warwick man who told Chanthaphouvong his son was driving it that day and he advised the man to have his son contact police as soon as possible. He said Donald R. Rose, 48, of 78 Tanglewood Dr., West Warwick, and Laurie A. Fontaine, 44, of the same address, came into headquarters and Fontaine admitted the theft and was charged with being a habitual offender. Rose was not charged after Fontaine told police he had no knowledge that she was taking the razors.
Krista Nardolillo, 29, of 28 Delmar Ave., Providence, was charged with shoplifting at the Target store in Warwick Mall on Aug. 12. Loss prevention agents at the store said they saw her conceal a number of items in her purse and then leave the store without paying for the concealed goods. She was charged with stealing $105.31 worth of merchandise. She was later released with a summons.
Nicole Zuleta, 28, of 85 Sunset Ave., North Providence, was charged with shoplifting at Macy’s in Warwick Mall on Aug. 11 after loss prevention agents told police they saw her select about 21 items and take them into a fitting room and later come out with some of the items unaccounted for and her bag visibly fuller than when she went in. Loss prevention said they recovered five items worth a total of $174.88 from her handbag after she left the store without paying for them. She was later released with a summons.

LARCENIES
A North Kingstown woman told police she was at Potowomut Golf Course from 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 9 to play some golf before she went to work and realized that her laptop computer was missing from the back seat of her car. She said the MacBook Air 13.3 was worth $1,599. No suspects or witnesses.
A Westport man said he had dinner at Legal Seafood on Post Road from 7:30 to 9:45 p.m. on Aug. 9 and returned to his car after a waitress told him a window was smashed on the car. He said a black rolling suitcase that was in the back seat was missing and it contained his MacBook Pro laptop worth $1,200 and his and his wife’s passports and his checkbook. No suspects or witnesses.
A carnival worker called police on Aug. 8 to report that she left her purse in the front of her work truck for Rockwell Amusements in Oakland Beach and came back later to find that a $100 bill and $400 in $20 bills was missing from her purse. She said she had another $360 hidden in her purse that was not taken. She said she had no idea who took the money and had no witnesses or suspects.

DUI AND REFUSAL
Det. Joseph Mee reported he was working a uniformed patrol on Aug. 6 when he was dispatched to an accident on Old Forge Road around 9:25 p.m. He said the driver of a Jeep that was still in the middle of the road told him another vehicle crossed over the double yellow lines and hit him head on. The driver said he suspected the man who hit his Jeep was drunk.
Mee said he found the other vehicle’s driver on a side street. He said the driver smelled of alcohol and was unsteady on his feet. He said he gave the driver a field sobriety test and arrested him when he failed it. He said the driver claimed he only had three glasses of wine and then advised Mee that he had also taken a sleeping pill just before he left his house. He said the driver, identified as Joseph P. Gleason, 49, of 77 Old Forge Rd., refused a chemical test at headquarters and was charged with DUI and refusal and later released to a sober adult.
