CORRECTION AND CLARIFICATION

In a Beacon story [March 5] about an alleged relationship between a Warwick high school student and one of her teachers, Maj. Raymond Gallucci, the commander of operations for the Warwick Police Department, was misquoted. Herewith, Maj. Gallucci responds:

“The Warwick Police Department thoroughly investigated the complaint initiated by a 16-year-old juvenile student attending Warwick Veterans Memorial High School. Regardless of the circumstances, the Warwick Police Department did not complete the investigation as stated in the article ‘…we drop it.’ That comment was never made.

“Based on the conclusion of the investigation, indicating that the allegation of criminal conduct occurred in another jurisdiction, the Warwick Police Department did not interview the teacher. The investigation was referred to and will continue with the agency that the alleged criminal activity occurred. A continuation of this investigation by the Warwick Police Department would have jeopardized the other jurisdiction’s criminal investigation. The Warwick Police Department understands the sensitive nature of this situation and conducted the investigation accordingly.

“What was said in the context of the telephone interview was, ‘Once the investigation revealed that the potential criminal conduct occurred in another jurisdiction, our investigation concludes at that point, and we refer the incident to the other investigating agency.’”

LARCENIES

A Providence woman told police she parked her car at the On The Border restaurant on Bald Hill Road around 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 28 and found the window smashed when she returned. A $200 iPod and four pairs of shoes worth $300 were taken. No suspects or witnesses.

A Randall Avenue woman told police she came home from work on March 3 around 4:45 p.m. and saw that her car had been ransacked. The contents of the glove box were strewn about and the top half of the console was snapped off but a $40 bra she bought at Victoria’s Secret was the only thing missing. She said the bag was still there but the bra and receipt were gone. No suspects or witnesses.

A Chestnut Street resident told police an iPod and a pair of prescription glasses were taken from his vehicle sometime overnight on Feb. 23. The items were worth a total of $400. No witnesses.

A Pawtucket man said he arrived at the Team Works complex on Jefferson Boulevard around 8 p.m. on Feb. 26 and returned around 10:30 to discover his car had been ransacked and his wallet and several other things were missing, including his Social Security card, birth certificate, passport, license and a debit card, $15 in currency and his cell phone. No witnesses.

DUI OR REFUSAL

Officer Javier Cabreja reported he was dispatched to a traffic stop on Route 95 south near Exit 10 for a car with heavy front-end damage around 1:30 a.m. on Feb. 28. He said the driver was still in the driver’s seat and she appeared to be intoxicated. He said the woman told him she had a few white Russians and four clonazepam tablets earlier. He said he gave her a field sobriety test that he stopped for fear she would fall and hurt herself performing it. He said the test and the tireless rim on her car indicated she had traveled on it for some time and was enough to arrest her for suspected DUI. She was taken to headquarters where she blew a .051 and a .053 blood alcohol content, which was low enough to indicate she had other drugs in her system. Another officer with training in drug use recognition arrived and said she should be taken to the hospital for a blood test. He said they took her to Kent Hospital where she refused to take a test. Kristen A. Heaney, 21, of 25 Robin Hollow Rd. in West Greenwich was charged with DUI, refusal and for possessing a folding knife larger than the legal limit and was later released to a sober adult.

Officer John Curley said he got a tip about a possible DUI around 9:50 p.m. on Feb. 27. A witness at the Hess station on Post Road said a driver was falling asleep behind the wheel of a Subaru with a temporary plate. He said he found the car heading north on Post and watched it drift over lanes before turning onto Pilgrim Drive without stopping for the stop sign. He said he pulled the car over and noticed the driver was disoriented and confused and laughed at the questions he was asked. He said the man admitted he takes suboxone daily and smoked marijuana earlier but denied he had been drinking but still failed the field sobriety test. He was taken to Kent Hospital but refused to take a blood test. Curley reported two Xanax and an Adderal tablet were found on the man and Adam J. Belanger, 20, of 126 Holmes Rd. in Warwick was charged with DUI, refusal and possession of controlled substances and held for arraignment.

Officer Daniel DiMaio said he went after a car that was traveling on the wrong side of the street on Post Road around 3 a.m. on Feb. 23. He said he stopped the driver on Atlantic Avenue and noticed she smelled of alcohol and appeared intoxicated. He said he gave the driver a field sobriety test that she failed and she was arrested for suspicion of DUI. He said he asked the woman if she would take a breath test and she stalled and said she just wanted to go home as fast as possible. He said he asked her at least five times before he told her that she had to answer and that refusing to answer was the same as refusing to take the test. He said she refused to answer again and he told her she was being charged with refusal and she refused to sign the refusal form. Lisa M. Duchesneau, 32, of 23 Keller Ave. in Warwick was charged with DUI and refusal and later released to a sober adult.

Officer Charles Austin reported stopping a car he clocked doing 55 on Bald Hill Road around 1:50 a.m. on Feb. 23. He said he had to use his air horn three times before the driver finally pulled over. He said he asked for the paperwork on the car and she reached into the glove box and then handed him the owner’s manual, and then put that down, and then looked for her purse, which she didn’t have. He said she finally found her license in the back pocket of her pants but no registration or insurance card. He said her face was flushed and she smelled strongly of alcohol. He said she refused to take the one leg stand test and insisted he arrest her if he was going to but she would take no more tests. She was taken to headquarters where she did take a breath test. She registered a .199 and a .198 blood alcohol content. Nichole A. Rotondo, 23, of 49 Kristee Circle in West Warwick was charged with DUI and later released to a sober adult.

Officer John Curley said he was on patrol around 7 p.m. on Feb. 27 when he got a dispatch about a possible DUI near DePetrillo on Warwick Ave. A witness said a female had fallen down in the parking lot and then got up and back into her car. He said the car was still in the lot when he arrived and he saw it had flat right front and back tires. The car was idling and the woman was behind the wheel. He said she smelled of alcohol. He said she actually had her clothes on but the pants were undone. He said she smelled of alcohol and appeared to be drunk. He said she refused to finish a field sobriety test “due to her allergies.” Candace Brunelle, 44, of 14 Maywood Ave. in Warwick, was taken to headquarters where she refused a breath test. She was charged with DUI and refusal and then transported to Kent Hospital for detox.
