PHONE LOCATED

Officer Christopher Vargas reported going to Dave’s Bar and Grill on Post Road around 11 p.m. on April 1 for a report of a female larceny suspect who locked herself in the men’s room after the victim attempted to get his property back. He said other officers were already on the scene and had sorted out part of the story, which was that a man’s cell phone disappeared from where he left it on a pool table and he had his friends dial his number. He said they traced the ringing to the woman who had locked herself in the men’s room, who he was familiar with from prior contacts, and was now seated at the bar.

Vargas said she came out of the bathroom when police arrived and they found the man’s cell phone and a bottle of vodka from the bar in the woman’s purse. He said she claimed she believed the cell phone belonged to her boyfriend and claimed the bottle of Stolichnaya vodka belonged to her, but the bar manager and police said the red pouring cap on the bottle and the gap at the end of the shelf where all the “Stoli” was kept indicated it was not hers. Lauren C. Parenteau, 23, of 136 Reynolds Ave., Warwick, was arrested and charged with larceny. Vargas said Parenteau was intoxicated and was held until she could be released, with a summons, to a sober adult.

CLASSIC DAMAGE

Officer Nicholas Reay reported damage to a restored 1969 Chevy Chevelle at the Cowesett Hills Apartments on March 31. The owner told Reay he found that someone had applied black spray paint to the left taillight and trunk sometime overnight. He said he worked on the car the day before and the damage wasn’t there at that time. No witnesses or suspects.

SHOPLIFTING

A West Warwick man was charged with shoplifting and possessing an illegal knife on March 28. Loss prevention at the Walmart store on Bald Hill Road told Officer Quentin Tavares they saw the man take a hard drive from the electronics section to the sporting goods area, where he removed the spider wrap security device and conceal the hard drive before leaving the store without paying for it. Tavares said he was patting the man down before putting the cuffs on him and found the five-inch Coleman folding knife in the liner of his jacket. Adam J. Brierley, 37, of 11 School St., was charged and held for arraignment.

Officer Scott Chanthaphouvong reported arresting a North Providence man for felony shoplifting and fraudulently obtaining money on March 30. Loss prevention at the Sears store in Rhode Island Mall told police they saw him conceal a tool set and a couple of sheet sets in a Macy’s bag and present them as returns in the women’s department for a $171.03 credit. They said they stopped him outside and found even more Sears merchandise he stole inside the Macy’s bag worth a total of $417.64. Mark P. Olivo, 32, of 349 Sunset Ave., was charged with felony shoplifting because of a prior conviction for the same crime in August of last year.

WARRANTED

Officer Aaron Steere reported he was heading north on Route 95 around 10:30 p.m. on March 29 when his radar caught a car right in front of him doing 10 miles per hour over the speed limit. He said he learned that the driver, Matthew K. Sklarski, 18, of 44 Mulberry Dr., Wakefield, had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear for a court hearing for violating a no contact order. He was arrested and held for the bail commissioner.

DUI AND REFUSAL

Officer Hovsep Sarkisian reported he was dispatched to an accident on Budlong Avenue around 2:23 a.m. on March 18. He said he arrived to find a woman in the driver’s seat of a running car. He said it obviously veered off the road and hit a tree with the front quarter of the car, which caused the airbag to deploy and pinned the driver’s side door shut. He said the woman told him she was all right and she refused medical attention and came out through the passenger door. He said the woman appeared to be under the influence and failed a field sobriety test. She was arrested and taken to headquarters, where she refused to take a breath test. He said another officer retrieved a bag of what looked like marijuana from between the console and the driver’s seat. Sarkisian said that tested positive for marijuana and Donna Conway, 23, of 197 Harrington Ave., Warwick, was charged with DUI, refusal and possession of marihuana and later released to a sober adult.

Officer Daniel O’Connell reported he was dispatched to the Haxton’s Liquor Store on West Shore Road around 11:45 a.m. on March 22 for a report of a woman who was refused service at the store because she was obviously intoxicated and that she got into her car and began to drive on Canfield Avenue. O’Connell said he caught up with the car and pulled it over. He said the driver appeared intoxicated and admitted she had been drinking. He said he gave her a field sobriety test that she failed and he stopped it before she injured herself. She was taken to headquarters, where she registered a .333 and a .329 blood alcohol content on the breath test. He said the woman told them she “already drank one pint of vodka” around 11 a.m. and went to Haxton’s to get another pint. Lisa Brennan, 53, of 146 Myrtle Ave., was charged with DUI and then taken to Kent Hospital for detox.

Officer John Curley reported responding to a possible DUI on Jefferson Boulevard on March 24. He said they found the suspect’s Jeep idling in the parking lot of the Honey Dew Donut shop at 700 Jefferson. He said the driver appeared to be confused and smelled strongly of alcohol. He said he gave the driver a field sobriety test and stopped the test for her safety. He said he took Robin Harrison, 48, of 129 Imperial Dr., Warwick, to headquarters, where she refused to take a breath test. She was charged with DUI and refusal. He said a witness gave him a statement saying he saw the Jeep bounce off a guardrail as it came down the ramp from Route 95 and said she called 911 and followed the Jeep as it exited onto Jefferson. Harrison was later released to a sober adult.

Officer Daniel Maggiacomo reported he was on patrol on West Shore Road around 6:10 p.m. on March 24 when he heard a dispatch about a suspected DUI. He said he saw the suspect vehicle at the light near Nausauket and Groveland. He said he was approaching the car when he saw the driver quickly reaching to fasten his seat belt. He said he followed the car as it went down a number of streets before turning and heading back toward City Park. He said he stopped the car and noticed the driver smelled strongly of alcohol and appeared to be drunk and turned out to be lost. He said the man told him he was looking for Hoxsie Avenue. He said he asked him to take a field sobriety test and he agreed. He said he just started the test when he noticed the man had something in his mouth. He said he asked him what it was and the man said he had just eaten his cigar. Maggiacomo asked him if that was normal and said he replied, “Yes, I eat my cigars all of the time.” He said he tried to administer a field sobriety test, but the driver couldn’t get through the first part of it and Maggiacomo called it off for the man’s safety. He said Alfred J. Barone, 60, of 1613 Plainfield St., Johnston, was taken to headquarters, where he refused to take a breath test. He was charged with DUI, refusal-second offense, and not wearing a seat belt. He was later released to a sober adult.
