LARCENY

Officer Gilda Fortier reported a larceny at the Planet Fitness on Pace Boulevard on April 17. A Cranston woman told Fortier she was at the gym the day before between 4 and 5 p.m. and put her purse and other belongings in a locker. She said she returned to the locker and found her wallet slanted at an odd angle in her pocketbook but didn’t think much about it until she was at a store and realized that five $100 bills were gone from her wallet. She said she last saw the money earlier that morning and said that she constantly checks her wallet. She said the staff at the gym said there was no surveillance of the locker area. There were no witnesses or suspects.

BOTTLE THROWN

Officer John Madden went to the Meadowbrook Cleaners at 2517 Warwick Ave. around 5 p.m. on April 19 to speak with a man who said he worked at the cleaners and parked his car behind the shop and came out a few minutes ago and found that someone had thrown a vodka bottle through his car’s rear window. He said he last saw the window intact about an hour before so it must have happened between 4 and 5 p.m. There was no surveillance and no witnesses or suspects.

SHOPLIFTING

Officer Paul White reported he was dispatched to the Stop & Shop in Meadowbrook Plaza around 12 p.m. on April 24 for two people being detained by a loss prevention agent who said they had been going through the store with a carriage, loading it up with numerous items before the male suspect stood back as the female suspect wheeled the carriage out the door, making no attempt to pay for the merchandise. The loss prevention agent said he stopped them outside and escorted them back into the store to wait for police. The male party was identified as John Manfredi, 52, of 75 Heights Ave. in Warwick and the female as Miranda Thomas, 33, of 23 Orient St. in Warwick. They were both charged with shoplifting $502.92 worth of groceries and other items. White said he also learned that Thomas had an outstanding warrant from Family Court for failure to appear for a charge of non-support. They were both processed and then transported to District Court.

DUI AND REFUSAL

Officer Christian Vargas reported he was on patrol around 4:25 p.m. on April 21 when dispatch notified him that a witness was following a suspected drunk driver who had driven a green 1999 Ford Mustang convertible over several lawns on Snow Road. He said he was heading toward that area when he saw the car heading north on Post Road and turned and followed it onto Route 37. He said he saw the car nearly hit before it slowed down to 20 or 25 miles per hour onto 95 north and then got off at the Jefferson Avenue exit at a very low speed. He said he pulled the car over into the Motel 6 parking lot and approached the driver. He said she looked like she was intoxicated and slurred her speech and smelled strongly of alcohol. He said the woman claimed she only had two beers at her daughter’s house earlier. He said he instructed her to take the keys out of the ignition and put them on the dashboard. He said he was walking back to his cruiser when she got out of the car and threw the keys onto the windshield and he ordered her back into the car. Vargas said he asked her to take a field sobriety test, but he stopped the test when he saw that she could not stand up without assistance and he had to catch her from falling. The driver was taken to headquarters where she fell several times more and had to be held up. He said the woman refused to take a breath test and was charged with DUI, refusal and possession of marijuana when the substance in a baggie recovered from her car was determined to be marijuana. Linda S. St. Jean, 55, of 31 Branch Rd. in Warwick was also charged with lane roadway violations and later released to a sober adult.
