CORRECTION

In a police report published in Monday’s Beacon, the address of a shoplifting suspect was given as 23 Orient St., Warwick. We have subsequently learned that the suspect does not and has never lived at that address. We regret the error.

RENTAL FRAUD

Officer Jacob Elderkin reported he was on patrol on April 25 on Post Road when he spotted a car driven by a woman with an outstanding warrant from Warwick Police for obtaining a rental car from Enterprise Car Rental at 1101 Post Rd. with misdemeanor intent to defraud. Elderkin said he pulled the car over at the Domino’s Pizza parking lot and verified that the driver was Pearlie Jenkins, 37, of 161 West Shore Rd. Jenkins was transported to headquarters, where she was processed and later released with a summons for District Court.

SHOPLIFTING

Maria T. Ramos, 41, of 247A Thurbers Ave., Providence, was arrested and charged with shoplifting at the Walmart on Bald Hill Road on April 26. Loss prevention at the store told Officer Stephen Major they saw Ramos select a bangle bracelet in the jewelry department and conceal it before walking out without paying for it. She was later released from headquarters with a summons for District Court.

TAGGED

Officer Gary Driscoll reported he was checking an alarm on Knight Street around 1:20 p.m. on April 24 when the owner of the property told him about another property he owned nearby that had been the target of graffiti “taggers” over the last few weeks and led Driscoll to the back of a building on Greco Lane that had numerous spray-painted tags in several colors. The owner told him it would cost about $2,000 to clean the walls. Driscoll said he found a number of spray paint cans and several empty energy drink containers at the site and seized them to be fingerprinted by BCI officers. Pictures were taken of the damage. No suspects or witnesses.

BAG LADY

An East Providence man reported he got on a RIPTA bus at Greene Airport around 4 p.m. on April 29 to go to Providence. He said there was an elderly lady on the bus with him who signaled the driver to stop just off the Airport property on Post Road and got off. He said he noticed his black duffel bag was missing from the front of the bus, which is designated for people’s bags, a short time after that. He said another passenger on the bus told him that the woman got off the bus with three bags. He told Officer Matthew Higgins he believed one of those bags was his. He said the woman was wearing a brown jacket and brown shoes. He said a Tom Tom GPS, a red Bible, some work papers, a pair of glasses and a check were in his bag.

TRIKE RECOVERED

A Warwick man came into headquarters on April 27 to report that two bikes and a Honda three-wheeler were taken from his carport sometime between 1 and 8 a.m. Shortly after the man told Officer Nicholas Reay he would press charges, Providence Police called to report that they found the three-wheeler abandoned in their city. Reay said he called the man and told him he could get the Honda from them. A $150 Tony Hawk BMX bike and a $200 mountain bike remain unaccounted for.

LARCENIES

A Warwick man reported he was at Goddard Park between 7:50 and 9:15 a.m. on April 27 and returned to his car to find the passenger window smashed and his wallet missing. He said his credit cards and gift cards with balances over $220 were in the wallet, which he left in the center console. Officer James Wenneman said there was a large rock on the back seat that was used to break the window. No suspects or witnesses.

An employee at Chelo’s at 2225 Post Rd. said he returned from his shift at 10 p.m. on April 27 and found the passenger window smashed and his tennis backpack missing. He said the contents of the backpack were worth around $300. No suspects or witnesses.
