LOST PURSE

A woman from Puerto Rico told police she came to Rhode Island from Puerto Rico and had her Puerto Rican driver’s license, Social Security cards for herself and her children and about $126 in cash in her purse and went to the Rainbow shop on Bald Hill Road to do some clothes shopping on May 4. She said she put her purse down at one point while she was trying on clothes and later noticed that she could not find her purse. She said she was not sure where she put it down and it was not found in the store. Police took a report and a local address where she could be reached if it turned up.

VANDALS

Fire Extinguisher Service on Elwood Avenue told police they found graffiti sprayed all over their building, a CO2 tank, an electrical lug box and a work van on their property on May 3. No suspects or witnesses. A notice for more frequent checks of the area was posted.

A woman who lives on Van Buren Street told police she woke up on May 4 to find that someone had “keyed” her 2009 Hyundai Elantra while it was parked in her driveway overnight. No suspects or witnesses.

Police took a vandalism report from Cesar’s Appliances on Post Road on May 4. The owner told them that the building was “tagged” on the back and side walls several times over the past few weeks. No suspects or witnesses.

Police went to Joe’s Ice Service on Post Road on May 6 for a report of multi-colored graffiti and a “tag” sprayed on the building and a company truck parked on the south side of the building. No suspects or witnesses.

Police took a more serious report of vandalism from the supervisor of Child Inc. on Draper Avenue concerning the buses at the school on May 5. The supervisor told police she got a call from an officer the night before about the damage and assessed the damage that day. She reported that all of the windows and doors on their seven buses had been damaged. She said that three or four other buses that had been damaged on another occasion also had new damage and the window of a shed was smashed. She estimated that the damage would cost about $6,750 to repair. No suspects or witnesses.

DUI AND REFUSAL

Sgt. John Choquette reported he was on patrol around 2:40 a.m. on April 28 exiting from I-95 south when he saw a black Honda heading straight at him on Quaker Lane. He said he had to swerve out of the way to avoid a head-on collision. He said he turned his car around and pulled the Honda over in front of Cowesett Motors. He said he asked the driver if she knew why he pulled her over and she replied, “I just live up the road.” He said he asked her to recite the alphabet up to the letter “J” and she blew right through to “Z” without pausing. He said she smelled strongly of alcohol and appeared to be drunk but denied she had been drinking. He said he asked her again and she admitted, “Yes, a little bit at my friend’s house.” He said he gave her a field sobriety test and she failed it. He said he informed her she was under arrest for suspicion of drunk driving and she was taken to headquarters, where she refused to take a breath test. He said another officer did an inventory search and said he found three orange pills stamped with “B973” on one side and “20” on the other that were later identified as amphetamine and dextroamphetamine. Ashley M. Ferraro, 30, of 52 Royal Dr., West Warwick, was charged with DUI, refusal, laned roadway violations and possession of a controlled substance when she admitted the pills were not prescribed to her. She was held for arraignment and later released with a summons.

WARRANTS

Officer Dale Drowne reported he stopped a car for going 10 miles per hour over the speed limit on Post Road around 10:10 p.m. on May 4. He said a check on the driver revealed an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in District Court and that the car was unregistered. He said he seized the plates and Matthew George, 31, of 231 Orms St., Providence, was held for arraignment.

Officer Mark Jandreau reported he was dispatched to the National Guard Compound on Airport Road around 11:30 a.m. on May 4 for a man who had just turned himself in as a military deserter. He said he processed Paul Gorra, 31, of 258 Vauxhall St., New London, Conn., at headquarters and he was later transported him to the ACI to await military authorities.

LARCENY

A Charlestown man told police he parked his car in the front parking lot of the On The Border restaurant on Bald Hill Road on May 2 and went inside. He said his car was parked right under a streetlight, but when he returned around 11 p.m. he found both back windows were smashed and his $1,200 laptop and a pair of New Balance shoes worth $40 were gone. He told police he did not know how anyone knew those items were in the car because he had tinted windows. He said the manager informed him that there was no video surveillance and customers in the restaurant said they saw nothing suspicious.

A Warwick woman told Officer Marc Jandreau she was shopping at the Walmart on Bald Hill Road from 4:30 to 6:55 p.m. on May 4 and discovered as she was leaving the store that someone had gone into her purse and took her credit card and $120 in cash. No witnesses or suspects.
