ASSAULT

Officer Randy Francis reported he was confused by an initial call about a possible drunk driver around 1 a.m. on Aug. 10. The reporting party said it was near Hoxsie Four Corners, but it became apparent after a while that it was Wildes Corner. The reporting party said it as following the car as it went into the Citizens Bank parking lot on Strawberryfield Road and then back out onto West Shore Road. Francis said he found the car in the parking lot of The Whalen. He said the car was in park and the driver appeared to be very intoxicated. He said he didn’t see her break any traffic laws or drive drunk, but he warned the woman she would have to get a ride home and she accused him of being a bully. He said she called someone to driver her home but when Francis talked to the man, he said he, too, was in no condition to drive and no one else was found. He said they decided to have Patricia J. Hackworth, of 25 Chandler Dr., Coventry, transported to Kent Hospital for detox. He said he ordered her out of the car and she deliberately pushed it forcefully into him. He said he then told her she was under arrest for assault and began kicking and jerking in an attempt to get away. He said she continued kicking inside the cruiser and yelling belligerent challenges to the officers to engage in a number of sexual activities with her, which she continued in the cell block in such a frantic and aggressive manner that it was decided to take her to Kent for evaluation. He said the 51-year-old Coventry woman she was issued a summons for assault and then taken to Kent, where her behavior prompted four point restraints to be applied.

BUSTED

Officer Jeffrey Taranto reported a call about two men going through parked cars on Macera Circle around 2:20 a.m. on Aug. 15. He said he and other officers arrived to box in a car with two men in it who looked decidedly nervous and suspicious when he spoke with them. He said there was a latex glove on the floor of the passenger side of the blue 2011 Ford with Vermont license plates. He said they could also see some money and other objects on the floor of the back seat that were quickly matched up with missing stuff from the cars they were seen in, including $184 in bills, $14.75 in change, $40 worth of gift cards and $310 in iPods, power supplies and cables. Alexander Woods, 22, of 22 Chepatchet Ave., Cumberland, was also found to have an outstanding warrant in his hometown for receiving stolen goods. He was charged with larceny and conspiracy to commit larceny. Tyler Cole, 21, with no address given, was also charged with larceny and conspiracy and held for District Court.

POPPED WHEEELS

Officer Zachary Davis was dispatched to Naushon Avenue to take a report of a larceny that occurred overnight on Aug. 9. A homeowner there said she went out to her car around 6:30 a.m. and found her car up on plastic crates and all four wheels were missing. She said she also had a broken rear window on the car and a wallet and a set of keys for her offices at Miriam and Rhode Island Hospital were gone, along with some change she kept handy for parking meters. Davis said a check with neighbors produced no witnesses and some only vaguely suspicious people recently but no identifications.

MISSING MOTOR

Officer Jason Cooke reported he went to an address on West Shore Road around 6 p.m. on Aug. 16 for a report of an Evinrude 90 horsepower outboard motor that had gone missing from a garage there. The man told Cooke the last time he saw the motor was about two weeks before. He said the motor was worth around $1,800. No suspects or witnesses.

SHOPLIFTING

Loss prevention at Macy’s in Warwick Mall told police they caught a Cranston woman attempting to steal $269.87 worth of shirts from their store on Aug. 13. They said the woman took the shirts into a dressing room and concealed them in her handbag before attempting to leave without paying. Randa Elias, 49, of 30 Philips Ct., Cranston, was charged with shoplifting and held for the bail commissioner as a foreign citizen and the Kuwait Consulate was advised of the arrest. She was later released on $2,000 surety bail.

Maritza Suarez, 64, and Rhina Mella, 60, both of 12 Hawkins St., Providence, were charged with stealing one item each from the JC Penney store in Warwick Mall on Aug. 2. One cost $6.99 and the other was worth $17.99. They were later released with summonses.

Leilan Gustavo, 29, of 33 Salmon St., Providence was charged with stealing about $64.60 worth of electronic gadgets and two cheap watches from the Walmart store on Bald Hill Road on Aug. 12. Se was later released on $1,000 surety bail.

Alexander R. Jenkins, 22, of 276 Spring Green Rd., Warwick, was charged with removing a security device from a computer at the Post Road Walmart on Aug. 9 and was wheeling a Dell laptop worth $598 out to his car in the parking lot around 6:35 p.m. when he was intercepted by officers. Officer John Curley said they also found an outstanding warrant for Jenkins for failure to appear on another charge. He was also charged with shoplifting and later transported to the ACI.

Officer Eric Lima reported arresting Maria L. Stubbert, 39, of 17 Shady Grove Rd., North Kingstown, on Aug. 11 after loss prevention told police she selected a number of articles from a variety of departments and attempted to leave the store without paying for them. A wallet, some lip balm and some hairdressing appliances worth a total of $310 were recovered form Stubbert. She was later released with a summons for District Court.

DUI AND REFUSAL

Emily E. Lowe, 21, of 480 S. Main St., Raynham, Mass., was charged with DUI and refusal after Officer Matthew Moretti stopped her for speeding and driving erratically on Airport Road around 11 p.m. on Aug. 3 after clocking her at 50 miles per hour on Post Road as she wove between lanes. He said she appeared to be intoxicated and smelled of alcohol but said she only had a small drink. He said she failed a field sobriety and blew a .130 on the preliminary breath test at the scene. He said she was taken to headquarters, where she refused further testing. She was also charged with speeding before she was later released to her father, a sober adult.

William H. Palardy Jr., 55, of 119 Gervais St., Coventry, was arrested and charged with DUI and refusal on Aug. 6 after Officer Adam Arico driving erratically and screeching his tires on Oakland Beach Avenue around 10:30 p.m. He sad Palardy appeared to be drunk, smelled of alcohol and failed a field sobriety test. He was charged with DUI, refusal and several traffic violations. He was later released to a sober adult.

Donald E. Mann, 40, of 37 Mill St., West Warwick, was stopped on Post Road around 10:15 p.m. on Aug. 10 for riding a bicycle while intoxicated after an accident near 3200 Post Road. The driver of the car involved in the accident told Christopher Lo the bike came out of nowhere and ran into her car. He said the bicyclist was on a stretcher being treated when he spoke with him. He said he appeared to be drunk and admitted that “it’s the Bacardi, Budweiser and marijuana” that were guilty and then refused a blood test at Rhode Island Hospital. He was issued a summons for DUI and refusal and then left in the care of the staff.
