LARCENIES

Officer Nicholas Reay reported three No Parking signs that had gone missing at Chelo’s Waterfront on Masthead Drive on Aug. 17. The owner told Reay the signs were white stand-ups with the Chelo’s logo and were last seen on Aug. 11, the day they were posted. He said none of his employees have seen them or know where they are.

MISSING KAYAKS

A Beachwood Drive resident told police two kayaks and some paddles went missing from the deck behind her waterfront house sometime between Aug. 5 and Aug. 10. She said they were tied to the deck on Aug. 5 and she didn’t notice they were gone until that morning. She said the boats and paddles were worth a total of $1,300. No suspects or witnesses.

HOT DOGS

Two more dog owners were cited for leaving dogs in their cars while they went shopping. On Aug. 16, Animal Control Officer Jeffrey York reported going to the Dollar Tree store at 320 Warwick Ave. for a report of a car parked directly in front of the store. He said a Warwick police officer warned the man that he could not leave with the dog sitting in his lap, as he apparently intended to do, and said he would have to make a harness and secure the dog on the back seat. York said he reminded the man he couldn’t leave a dog in a hot car that registered 123 degrees inside by giving the man a ticket for that. John E. Casale, 66, of 35 Paine St. in Cranston was given a summons for Municipal Court.

On the same day, York reported being in front of the Kohl’s store in the Rhode Island Mall where he removed a medium-sized dog from a parked car and kept it in his air-conditioned truck while he waited for a Foster woman to come out of the store. When she did, he told her it was 118 degrees inside her car and he gave Rita S. Vaughn, 62, of 3 Mount Hygeia Rd., a summons for Municipal Court.

SKYLIGHTS TRASHED

An employee at the Confreda Ball Field Complex on Bend Street told police he arrived at work on Aug. 13 and saw that someone had climbed up on the roof sometime overnight and kicked the skylights out. He said the skylights cost $200 each. He said he had video of the two kids involved in the incident and that the video was being enhanced to better identify the culprits. He said the city of Warwick wants to press charges against the vandals.

DUI OR REFUSAL

Officer Joel Thomas reported stopping an older Ford pickup truck on Oakland Beach Avenue around 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 6 for driving without its lights on and not using a turn signal. He said the driver appeared to be under the influence and smelled of alcohol. He said other officers arrived as he gave the driver a field sobriety test. He said the driver almost fell several times and the test was stopped for his safety. David Paul Heath, 45, of 106 Ormsby Ave. in Warwick was taken to headquarters where he refused to take a breath test. He was charged with DUI and refusal and later released to a sober adult.

Sgt. Stephen Fernandes reported he got a call about a drunk driver leaving the Mobil Gas station on Veterans Memorial Drive around 5:55 p.m. on Aug. 15. He said he caught up with the Ford pickup going south on Post Road as it weaved between lines and crossed the double yellow lines several times before he pulled it over at the Cowesett Apartments, where it nearly hit a traffic island. He said the driver smelled of alcohol and appeared to be drunk. He was given a field sobriety test and the driver failed. He was taken to headquarters where he refused to take a breath test. He said he saw that one of the drivers involved appeared to be drunk and needed a qualified officer to perform a field sobriety test. Groeneveld said he smelled of alcohol and failed the field test and was taken to headquarters where he refused to take a breath test. Eric S. Went, 38, of 15 Charlene Ct. in North Kingstown was charged with DUI and refusal and later released to a sober adult.

He said the driver failed the field sobriety test and was taken to headquarters where he refused to take a breath test. Oscar Legon, 37, of 11 Creekwood Dr. in Warwick was charged with DUI and refusal and later released to a sober adult.

Officer Christian Vargas said he was on a traffic post around 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 11 when he saw a silver pickup speeding on Elmwood Avenue with its tires squealing. He said he pulled the driver over at Harrington and Perry Avenues and gave the driver a field sobriety test. He said the driver failed and was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and taken to headquarters where he registered a .301 and a .302 blood alcohol content on the breath test. Matthew F.
