OFF THE RACK

A manger at the Family Dollar store at 1092 Post Road told police a customer informed her that two men were taking clothes from the “on sale” rack outside the store around 1 p.m. on Aug. 21. She said the men were putting the goods in a maroon Toyota Corolla and she gave police the plate number. Officer Zachary Davis said a check with DMV revealed the plates were issued to another make and model car.

LARCENY

Officer Joel Thomas took a report of a break into a car on Damon Avenue sometime between 4 p.m. on Aug. 23 and 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 24. The owner of the car told Thomas he returned to the car and noticed that it looked like it had been gone through and an amount of loose change, about $10 worth, was taken from the console and a speaker box with dual 12” speakers was missing from the trunk of the car and there was damage to the rubber molding around the driver’s side rear door. No suspects or witnesses.

WINDOWS BROKEN

A Warwick woman told Officer Albert Marano she was visiting her friends on Cole Farm Road on Aug. 28 when someone broke the passenger side window of her car and stole her purse. He said the purse contained her wallet with a Bank of America debit card and a Discover credit card inside. She said she did hear a suspicious noise around 12:45 a.m. but didn’t go outside to see what it was. When she returned to her car around 1:30 a.m., she discovered that the passenger side window was smashed and her purse was missing. She said the green purse was worth about $40 and the Vera Bradley wallet cost $50. Marano said he found a rock on the ground beside the car that was probably used to break the window. No suspects or witnesses.

Officer David Waddington reported another broken car window on Ralston Street on Aug. 29. The owner of the car said his son had used the 2007 black Pontiac Grand Prix car earlier that week and left it locked in the driveway on Aug. 26. The owner said he came out around 5:50 a.m. on the 29th and found the passenger side window smashed and the lid of the console open. It appeared that someone had rummaged through the vehicle but nothing appeared to have been taken. The man said he slept with the air conditioner on so he did not hear anything throughout the night. He also told Waddington this was the second time they found the window smashed out. There were no suspects or witnesses.

DUI AND REFUSAL

Officer Albert Marano reported he was on patrol around 12:55 a.m. on Aug. 24 when dispatch advised him that someone was following a possible drunk driver heading north on Post Road and that the SUV had already hit a curb. He said he spotted the vehicle and he and Sgt. John McAniff got behind it at a traffic light. He said they followed it until they saw it cross the double yellow lines and pulled it over at Post and Cowesett Roads. He said he spoke with the driver and observed that she had a strong odor of alcohol on her breath and her speech was slurred. He said she told him she had two Mai Tai cocktails in Providence and that was why she was driving poorly. He said she was stumbling on the heel to toe walking test and he stopped it because he was afraid she would fall. He said she also failed the one-leg stand within the first 10 seconds and he arrested her on suspicion of drunk driving. He said she agreed to take a breath test at headquarters but the first came back as invalid. He said he put another card in and tried again. This time it came back with a .156 blood alcohol content reading but the next test also came back as invalid. He said he informed the OIC of the inconsistencies on the machine and he told Marano to take her to East Greenwich headquarters and use their machine but the driver changed her mind and said she would not take the test again. Mary Lou Perry, 57, of 106 Birch St. in Warwick was charged with DUI and refusal and later released to a sober adult.
