MISSING BOAT

Officer Rose Michel reported a boat missing from a home on Charlotte Drive on Sept. 1. The owners said they last saw the boat around 9 p.m. on Aug. 31. The owner said he happened to look outside around 1 a.m. and saw the boat was missing. He told her the boat was a 1973 Boston Whaler with a 2012 25-horsepwer Evinrude outboard motor. They said they already notified the Coast Guard and Warwick Police who were looking for the boat in case it just drifted off. They said the rope that held the boat was not cut, so it was possible that it drifted but the fog and rain made it difficult to see at the time.

FARE EVASION

Officer Michael Walker reported he was dispatched to Dave’s Marketplace on Airport Road to take a complaint of a fare evasion around 11 p.m. on Sept 7. A cab driver for the Excellent Taxi Company told him he picked up a man in Providence and took him to Warwick. He said his fare told him he needed to get some cash from an ATM and when that failed, the fare made some phone calls that also failed to generate any cash. He said the fare then asked if he could get a cigarette from his bag, which the driver was holding, and when he gave him the bag, the man took off running to the area behind Dave’s. He said he checked the area and met some people who said they saw a man go into Spike’s Junkyard Dogs and change from a dark sweatshirt and jeans to a white T-shirt and khaki pants. Walker then saw a man on Hoxsie Avenue with a white T-shirt and khakis and asked him his name. He said he replied that his name was Peter Pratt and that he was just in the area visiting a friend and taking a walk. The cab driver was summoned to the scene and he identified the man as his fare and showed them a passport the fare left behind that had his picture. They were a match. He said the suspect continued to say it wasn’t him but then asked if it was something he could get arrested for. It was. It’s called obtaining a vehicle with intent to defraud and Peter Yrchik Shoemaker, 21, of 136 Briarwood Dr. in South Kingstown was taken to headquarters where he was processed and charged and released with a summons in the morning.

DISTURBANCE

Officer Daniel Maggiacomo reported he was dispatched to a disturbance in progress between some men at 2053 Elmwood Ave. around 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 8. Maggiacomo said he arrived to find a frantic man on a cell phone yelling for help who told Maggiacomo there was a man chasing him with a knife. Maggiacomo said he drew his firearm and rounded the corner and saw a man the others were pointing to. He said he ordered all of them to get on the ground and all did expect for the suspect, who had to be told three times before he complied. He said they arrested the man and found no weapon on him or on any of the others.

He said they began to get the story of what happened. It appeared that one of the men who lived there came home in time to see the suspect throw a rock though a glass door in an argument about money. He said he saw the suspect go into the house and then emerge with a large knife or machete and came charging at them. The man said he picked up a rock to hit the man with the machete but it missed him and went through the man’s window and the man continued to chase him around with the knife. He said he couldn’t find the knife they said he used in his house or anywhere else, so the charge was going to be malicious damage and disorderly conduct. Kevin A. Wood, 41, of 2053 Elmwood Ave. was charged at headquarters and later released with a summons.

He said the driver smelled strongly of alcohol and appeared to be drunk but denied he had anything to drink.
