SHOPLIFTING

Officer Kevin McGuire took a shoplifting suspect into custody at Kohl’s in the Rhode Island Mall on Nov. 7. Loss prevention personnel at the store said that David Chukwudi, 24, of 15 Charles St. in Providence took jewelry, clothing and electronics from their displays and concealed the unpaid-for goods in the shopping bag with purchased items and left without paying the difference. They said $280.94 worth of merchandise was not paid for. He was later released from headquarters with a summons.

Officer Paul White reported arresting a woman at the Stop & Shop in Meadowbrook on Nov. 4 after loss prevention at the store told him they saw Marjorie Anne Chisholm, 53, of 3070 West Shore Rd. in Warwick conceal a number of items in her purse before leaving the store without paying for the concealed merchandise worth a total of $70.08. She was released from headquarters with a summons for shoplifting.

LARCENY

Officer Albert Marano reported the theft of four wheels from a car on Puritan Drive on Nov. 5. The owner of the car told Marano he was at work around 5 a.m. when his wife called him to tell him that all four wheels were missing from his car. He said he immediately came home and saw that his new 2013 Honda was missing all four wheels worth an estimated $2,000. Marano said they also found a wire to a motion sensor was cut and they will process the sensor for possible fingerprints. No suspects or witnesses.

Officer Gilda Fortier reported she was dispatched to California Avenue around 9:20 a.m. for another report of missing wheels and tires. A resident there told Fortier he left his father-in-law’s car in the driveway overnight while his father-in-law went on vacation. He said he last saw the car intact around 7:30 p.m. the day before and got a call that morning from a relative who said he noticed the SUV was propped up on cinder blocks and milk crates that morning. He said he knew the blocks were from his backyard but the milk crates were from someplace else. The crates, marked “Dean’s Deli” and “Hood,” were taken for fingerprints, along with some lug nuts found at the scene. The tires and wheels were estimated to be worth $2,800. No suspects or witnesses yet.

A Lincoln woman told police she parked her car in the lot at the Twist restaurant on Bald Hill Road around 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 7 and returned around 10 p.m. and found the passenger window smashed and her laptop missing from the front seat of her car. She said the laptop was worth $700 and that it would take $1,000 to fix the window on her 2013 BMW. No suspects, no witnesses and no surveillance.

NO SEAT BELT

Officer Matthew Higgins reported he was on patrol around 5:35 p.m. on Nov. 2 when he saw a car with one brake light not working and a passenger in the back seat without a seat belt on. He said the car smelled of marijuana and the driver had no license on him but was identified through his Social Security number. He said other officers were called and eventually every one in the car was frisked for weapons before the car was searched and methamphetamines and cocaine were found in CD cases inside the car. Steven P. Briggs, 21, of 6106 Scituate Vista Dr. in Cranston was charged with possession of controlled substances and later released on $5,000 personal recognizance.

He said the driver of the Hyundai Elantra appeared to be under the influence and smelled of alcohol. He said the man admitted he had “had three beers” earlier. He said he gave the driver a field sobriety test and the man failed it. Micah J. Brown, 20, of 118 Walnut Glen Dr. in Warwick was taken to headquarters where he refused to take a breath test. He was charged with DUI, refusal and leaving the scene of an accident and later released to a sober adult.

Officer Albert Marano reported an accident on Post Road around 2:15 a.m. on Nov. 1. He said he found a car on the median and a “merge” sign broken in the middle of the northbound lane. He said the woman who was driving got upset and started asking him for help but told him not medical help when he offered her that and made it clear she wanted help with the situation she found herself in. Marano said she appeared to be under the influence and smelled of strong drink. He said he administered a field sobriety test to the driver and she failed it. Patricia A. Egan Walsh, 36, of 1089 Greenwich Ave. in Warwick was taken to headquarters where she refused to take a breath test. She was charged with DUI, refusal and having no proof of insurance and later released to a sober adult.

Officer Hovsep Sarkisian reported seeing a car straddling both northbound lanes doing 50 miles per hour on Warwick Avenue with a headlight out around 1:40 a.m. on Oct. 26. He said he asked the driver if he had been drinking and he said he had a few drinks at a party in North Kingstown and that he was now on his way to go home in North Kingstown and volunteered, “Just a few. I don’t drink too much.” Sarkisian said he gave the man a field sobriety test and he failed it. He was then taken to headquarters where he refused to take a breath test. Leon Lopes, 20, of 123 Manolla Ave. in Warwick was charged with speeding, laned roadway violations, DUI and refusal. Sarkisian said he returned to the holding cell to present Lopes with the summons when he found him asleep and found a large amount of vomit in the cell.
