PROCUREMENT

Officer Christian Vargas reported he was dispatched to the Motel 6 on Dec. 11 when dispatch got a call from someone who was staying in a room next to a room where something fishy was going on. The caller said she could smell marijuana and men were coming and going from the room. Vargas said he and other officers approached the room and he heard what sounded like small talk between a man and a woman inside. He said the door opened and a man was in the middle of asking a woman about calling her again and asking her what her age was. He said the man was dressed but the woman holding the door for him was completely nude. He said the man looked “shocked and surprised” when he saw the police. He said the woman started yelling, “That’s my boyfriend! That’s my boyfriend! Can I get some clothes on?” when she saw the police. Vargas said she was told she could get dressed. Vargas said the man was put in the back seat of a cruiser after he denied engaging in any sexual conduct. He said he saw an ad for a massage on Backpage.com and was making those arrangements when police arrived. Unluckily for him, according to Vargas, the woman was much more candid about what had transpired and told police she had sex with the man for $80. The woman, identified as Stephanie Ann Lanagan, 22, of 18 Lee Rd. in East Providence, was charged with prostitution.

TRACKED DOWN

Det. David Morrow reported a call around 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 30 from a Massachusetts man who said his iPad and a GPS unit were stolen from his car while he was in a Wendy’s in Hanover that day. He told Morrow the iPad was equipped with tracking software that indicated the iPad was at the Hess station at 1122 Post Rd. Morrow said they immediately took a position near the Hess station and monitored the cars coming and going from the station until one of them was narrowed down as the suspect vehicle. He said they stopped the car after it left the station, heading north, at Titus Lane. He said they advised the driver why they stopped him and he immediately said the iPad in his vehicle belonged to his daughter. Then he told them he bought the iPad and the GPS unit from a man in Cranston for $60 that morning. Morrow said it was apparent his story was inconsistent with what they already knew and when he admitted he had been in Massachusetts cleaning carpets and that one of those jobs was near the Wendy’s, he admitted he took the items from an unlocked car in Rockland. Morrow said Michael J. Fallon, 43, of 18 Florida Ave. in Cranston, told him it was a crime of opportunity and that he was having financial problems. He was charged with possession of stolen goods and released with a summons for District Court.

SHOPLIFTING

Adam D. Lucas, 40, of 20 Amanda Ct. in Cranston was charged with shoplifting on Dec. 17 after loss prevention at the Wal-Mart in the Rhode Island Mall told police he concealed men’s apparel on his person before leaving the store without paying for the goods. He was later released with a summons.

Cheryl Vanasse, 53, of 45 Bridal Ave. in Warwick was charged with shoplifting from the Kohl’s store on Dec. 13 after loss prevention called police to say she walked away from the store without paying for $70.78 worth of jewelry concealed on her person. She was later released with a summons.
