IN THE DUMPS

Officer Aaron Kay reported he was dispatched to Nausauket for a report of illegal dumping. A witness said she found some trash by the side of the road that contained some paperwork for a nearby resident in the trash but did not want to press charges and asked only that the person be reminded of ordinances regarding littering and dumping. He said he would look into it himself and ran a check on the name. It turned out there was an outstanding bench warrant for failure to appear for Brianna N. Hassell, 19, of 344 Nausauket Rd., for failure to appear for a payment review. He said he later found Hassell and warned her about littering and then arrested her on the warrant. He said he found a small bag of marijuana in Hassell’s jacket pocket and she was additionally charged with possession.

DISORDERLY VANDAL

Officer Damian Andrews reported he was dispatched to the LaQuinta Inn on Jefferson Boulevard around 3:45 a.m. on Jan. 1 for a hysterical woman in the lobby. Andrews said the woman was screaming and saying she just wanted to get her belongings and leave and accused the clerk of assaulting her. He said the clerk told him he started getting complaints about a woman banging on guest room doors, demanding they let her in. He said he asked her what room she was in, but she refused to tell him and refused to give him her name. He said she followed him back to the lobby, screaming all the way, and then she shoved him when he said he was calling the police, and then shoved another person and grabbed the phone behind the desk and then threw a vase across the lobby. He said he activated his lights and pulled in behind them. He said one of the drivers approached him and said “they just didn’t see each other changing lanes” and it was no one’s fault. Larivee said he noticed the extremely strong odor of cologne about the driver. He said he spoke with the other driver who was “visibly shaking” after the accident who told him that nobody was changing lanes. He said he was traveling straight south on 95 when he was suddenly rear-ended. Larivee said it looked like there was no sideswiping involved and the rear of the car in front was damaged. He said he began to notice that the first driver he spoke to seemed to be under the influence but claimed he had not been drinking. He said he was swaying on his feet and failed a field sobriety test. He said a Rhode Island State Trooper arrived who had a portable breath tester and offered it to the driver, who refused it. He said he pulled to the right and the pickup barely missed him when it passed him with its engine revving before it sped away. Groeneveld said he caught up with the truck at a red light and then he pulled it over after it sped away from the green light. He said the driver was told he was driving too aggressively and then he noticed the strong smell of alcohol in the truck. He said the driver appeared to be under the influence and was asked out of the truck for a field sobriety test. He said the man decisively failed the field sobriety test and was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.
