MARKED UP

Officer Aaron Steere reported he was dispatched to Kent Hospital around 2:50 p.m. on Feb. 5 for a report of an impaired man in the emergency waiting room. They said the man was trying to sell his prescription to people whom were going into the ER before they found him in the ER on a chair with a graffiti marker in his hand near three chairs that were marked up in the same color as the marker. The head of security said there was also a mileage chart from a rental car in the ER that should have been in the car and he suspected the man brought it there. He said he went to check the car and found cigarette burns on the front and back seats and a swastika drawn on the console that was also the color of the marker. Richard Manfredo, 29, of 3 Crossen St., in West Warwick was arrested and charged with vandalism and held for District Court as a probation violator.

WRESTLE MANIA

Officer Adam Arico said he went to Kent Hospital around 6:25 a.m. on Feb. 7 to help security subdue a woman who was refusing to leave the emergency room after she was treated and ended up hitting one of the guards. Security told Arico that they were escorting the woman out of the ER after she threatened security and staff when they asked her to leave. They said she turned on them as they were walking out of the ER and asked them if they wanted to wrestle with her and when they refused, she punched one of the men in the chest and was subdued. Arico said he was trying to get the woman’s side of the story but she was screaming and acting belligerently. He said she complained that she was hurt when they subdued her and needed to be admitted to the hospital but the staff evaluated the small contusion above her eye did not warrant any treatment. Terri Jean Kurzawa, 44, of 20 Darrow Dr. in Warwick as charged with disorderly conduct and assault.

SHOPLIFTING

Loss prevention at the JC Penney store in Warwick Mall told police they had video surveillance of a Woonsocket woman loading up on boxes of fragrance like Aqua Di Gio, Prada Candy and Dolce & Gabbana and taking them into a fitting room with a variety of clothes. They said she emerged with all the clothing visible but none of the boxes of fragrance were in sight. They said she returned the clothing to the racks but then walked out of the store without paying for the fragrances concealed in her purse. They told police they recovered $407 worth of cologne and perfume from Chanthachone Kachittavong, 42, of 18 Avenue C in Woonsocket. DUI AND REFUSAL

Officer Evan Brent reported he was on patrol around 9:10 p.m. on Feb. 7 when he saw a car enter Salter’s Grove, off Narragansett Parkway. He said the park was posted as being closed form sundown to sunrise and he approached the driver, who was behind the wheel with the motor running and a passenger was sitting next to him. He said the driver attempted to get out of the car but was told to stay put. He said he looked intoxicated and smelled of alcohol. He said he started asking the driver questions but decided to have him get out of the car because his passenger was providing all the replies. He said the driver first said they were there because his passenger needed to urinate but then said they were there for sex. He said the driver was unsteady and confused and his story changed continually. He said he asked the driver to take a field sobriety test and he did. Brent said the driver failed the test and his passenger was told she would have to find another way home that night. She did, and Brent said he waited until her ride arrived and the driver was taken to headquarters where he blew a .187 and a .180 blood alcohol content on the breath test. Brent said the driver offered to do some pushups and even got down on the ground but Brent told him that would not be necessary. Officer Matthew Moretti reported he was dispatched to the Chelo’s at 2225 Post Rd. around 6:25 p.m. on Feb. 5 for an accident. He said there were two cars in the parking lot and one of them had fresh front-end damage on the driver’s side and the other had a rear bumper with equally fresh damage. A bartender from the restaurant told Moretti he waited on the woman driving one of the cars at the bar and went into the kitchen for a minute and saw she had walked out on her check. He said he went outside and saw her behind the wheel when the car struck a snow bank and then she put it in reverse and struck a car in the parking lot as she backed away from the snow bank. He said he went up to the car and told her to wait for police but she looked as if she was going to drive into him before she finally listened and waited for police inside the vestibule of the restaurant. Moretti said the woman appeared to be intoxicated and smelled of alcohol. He said he asked her if she drank anything since the accident and she said she did not, so he asked her to come back outside and take a field sobriety test. He said she failed the field test and blew a .177 on the portable breath tester and was taken to headquarters where she refused to take another breath test. Moretti said he learned that Renee L. Dispatch informed him that an off-duty Rhode Island State Trooper had been following the pickup truck out of East Greenwich as it swerved all over the road and tailgated other vehicles. The trooper also said, at one point, the pickup was trying to force another car off the road. Moretti said two other Warwick cars had followed the pickup to Toll Gate and pulled it over. He said his supervisor asked him to do a field sobriety test on the driver while other officers took witness statements. He said he gave the driver a preliminary breath test with a portable analyzer and got a reading of .222 blood alcohol content. He was taken to headquarters where he refused to take a second breath test. Robert A. He said her passenger was severely drunk and couldn’t speak in a complete sentence and began to look like she was going to throw up and Duncan called Rescue to take her to Kent Hospital for alcohol and drug evaluation. The woman who was driving admitted she had started drinking at a wine tasting in Coventry at around 5 p.m. and had drinks at the Mardi Gras nightclub in Cranston after that. She was given a field sobriety test that she failed and she was taken to headquarters where she refused to take a breath test. Erin M.
