MISSING BENZ

Officer Scott Chanthaphouvong went to Inskip Motors on Bald Hill Road on Feb. 25 to hear a report of a new car that had gone missing from the lot. He said the sales manager told him they could not locate one of their vehicles and now believed it had been stolen. He told Chanthaphouvong it was a white 2014 GL450 Mercedes Benz worth $72,915. He said the vehicle was parked on the property on Feb. 8 but they didn’t notice it was missing until Feb. 24. He said he had the two sets of keys for the car in the office and that they checked the complete property and no one could account for the missing vehicle. He told Chanthaphouvong they would prosecute the person or persons responsible for the car’s disappearance. No suspects or witnesses.

WANTED

Officer Gregory Johnson went to the Nordstrom Rack in Warwick Mall on Feb. 23 to take custody of a shoplifting suspect who was being detained there. The loss prevention agent told him she watched the man come into the store and approach a cologne display where he removed the bottle from the box and then put the sensor in a shoe box before walking out with the bottle in his pocket. Johnson said he frisked the suspect and found nothing but a bus pass for a person other than himself. He said she was a friend of his and let him use it. But there was also some paperwork from District Court that identified him as Eduardo Calderon. Johnson ran a check on his name and turned up a Superior Court warrant for shoplifting and aggravated assault in Providence. Calderon was taken to headquarters, processed and then transported to the ACI Intake Center.

ERRATIC

Officer Eric Lima reported he was on patrol around 6:55 p.m. on Feb. 24 when he pulled a car over for drifting from lane to lane on East Avenue. He said a check on the driver revealed that there was a warrant for failure to appear in District Court. Joshua D. Herring, 29, of 292 Friendship St. in Providence was not charged with DUI, but he was charged with laned roadway violations and taken to headquarters to await the bail commissioner.

WANTED AGAIN

Officer Manuel Pacheco reported he was on patrol when he saw a car make a quick turn into Dave’s Market Place on West Shore Road on Feb. 16 without using a signal, causing Pacheco to hit the brakes to avoid hitting it. He said he pulled into the lot behind it and asked the driver for his paperwork for the car. The driver claimed his ex-wife and daughter in the back seat distracted him. He said a check on both adults in the car revealed that both had suspended licenses and there was a warrant out of District Court for failure to appear for sentencing for the driver. He said he arrested the driver and had an officer stand by while the ex-wife waited for a sister to arrive and take custody of the car.

LARCENIES

Two cars parked on Peacock Road were broken into sometime overnight on Feb. 24. Officer Aaron Kay said two people who lived next to each other both reported having their cars gone through. One of them was missing an iPod Touch worth $200 and the other lost a DeWalt cordless drill worth $200. The second victim reported a strange vehicle in the area the day before. He said the vehicle circled around the area but never stopped anywhere. No other suspects or witnesses.

Officer Nicholas Reay reported going to the Sears store in the Rhode Island Mall on Feb. 26 for a report of a stolen stereo. The owner of a 1997 Honda Civic said he parked his car around 5:30 p.m. and returned around 9 p.m. and found the driver’s side window smashed and his $300 Pioneer Super Tuner III with a DVD player was removed from the dash, leaving considerable damage behind. Reay said that Sears Security had retired for the day and forwarded the case to detectives for follow-up in the morning.

Officer Aaron Kay went to the Eleven Forty Nine Restaurant on Division Street on Feb. 18 for a report for a break into someone’s SUV. The owner told Kay he returned to his 2006 Land Rover around 7:25 p.m. and found it had been ransacked. He said papers were scattered about and a laptop bag with a laptop that was in the back seat was also missing. He told Kay the laptop was a Mac Book Pro 17” worth $4,000. Kay said he was speaking with the victim when the victim’s phone rang. A man called to tell him he found the phone and the empty laptop case in front of the Hess gas station on West Shore Road, near Warwick Vets High School. He said he wanted to return the bag to its owner and the victim and Officer Kay said they’d meet him there. He told them the laptop was gone when he found it but he thought the owner would be interested in keeping the other stuff in the laptop case. They met him at the laundromat nearby and thanked him for returning it. The case was forwarded to detectives.

HOUSEBREAK

Yet another vacant house was broken into on Feb. 25 and $500 worth of copper pipes and tubing was taken. An employee of Safe Guard Properties told Officer Joshua Myer she came by to monitor one of many houses that her company watches in the city and found that the one at 14 Montcalm Rd. had been broken into and the baseboard heating pipes had been stripped and the copper from the bathroom and the water heater were also missing. Myer said it appeared that they entered by the front door because the door lock had been popped off. No suspects or witnesses.
