CAN’T PAY FARE

Officer Daniel DiMaio was dispatched to the Mobil gas station at 15 Jefferson Boulevard at approximately 11:52 p.m. on May 18 regarding a complaint. Upon arrival, DiMaio met with a man who works for Ocean State Taxi and said he picked up a white male at the Biltmore at the taxi stand and transported him to Motel 6 because he wanted a cheap hotel. Upon arrival in Warwick, the cab driver said the man provided a debit card but there no funds available to be pulled off of it. The driver told DiMaio the man said he had no way to pay the fare and that he should call the police and have them take him to jail. The driver said he wished to press charges for knowingly not being able to pay for the cab fare. DiMaio said Leovankis Diaz, 36, of 1370 Saint Nichol, Apt. #3, Manhattan, N.Y. was arrested and transported to Warwick Police headquarters, where he was fingerprinted, photographed, and processed. Diaz was charged with one count of obtaining vehicles with the intent to defraud for the $35 cab fare and held for court in the morning.

UNREGISTERED

Officer Adam Arico was on routine patrol on Lincoln Avenue in Warwick at approximately 7:31 p.m. on May 19, when he observed a vehicle stopped at the light on Lincoln Ave., by Jefferson Blvd., with an expired registration sticker affixed to the rear license plate. After the light turned green, Arico said he activated his overhead lights and stopped the vehicle on Lincoln Ave. Arico said the operator provided her driver’s license and an expired registration for the vehicle but was unable to provide a valid insurance card. Arico said computer checks revealed the vehicle had no active registration and the woman had a suspended license. Arico said Mikayla N. Conley, 25, of 126 Brookside Ave., West Warwick was issued a citation for Operation of an Unregistered Vehicle with a Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal court date, as well as a citation for Driving After Denial Suspension or Revocation of License with a Third Division District Court date. Arico said a tow was called to pick up the vehicle and he seized both registration plates and Conley’s driver’s license before she and her passenger were allowed to leave the scene, all of which was secured in the mailbox at Warwick Police headquarters.

BOAT LARCENY

Officer William DiGiulio was dispatched to Brewer’s Marina at 1 Masthead Drive at approximately 1:30 p.m. on May 19 for the report of a larceny from a boat in the storage yard. Upon arrival, DiGiulio said he met with the victim, who said someone entered his boat, which was in dry dock, and took a flat screen TV and two chairs that he uses on the rear deck of the boat. The man said he believes the perpetrator used the key because he leaves it in an outside storage compartment and the rear sliding door and the lock are the only ways to get onto the boat, which was not damaged. He said the key was still in the outside storage compartment.

DiGiulio said he observed a cabinet on the boat that would hold an approximately 21-inch flat screen TV. DiGiulio said the TV was missing, but there was still attached to a security wire pieces of the rear of the flat screen television with a broken piece of plastic hanging off the wire. The man said he was unsure of the make, model and serial number of the TV but valued it at $200. He said the chairs, which he described as stainless steel with white vinyl, were valued at $40 a piece.

The man said all items were secure in their spots when he was last on the boat on May 12. When asked if anyone else was on the boat, the man said he has two workers, one of which was fixing the steering on the outside of the boat. He said the other was doing gel coating on the outside of the boat. The man said he has known both individuals for quite some time and doesn’t suspect them.

The man said he believes the incident occurred sometime during the week, where someone could have gained access to his boat. DiGiulio said it should be noted the boat is parked at the end of the row that faces the cove and anyone could sneak up from the bank of the cove/marsh area and onto the boat undetected. No suspects.
