VANDALS

Officer Julio Benros took a vandalism report at Toll Gate High School on May 25. Officials there showed him the graffiti on the track field house they discovered painted there: “They are watching” and “oHOHe (or a close approximation)” along with a smiley-face with a word bubbles with “NOBAMA” next to it. No suspects or witnesses.

CAT’S REVENGE

Officer Gilda Fortier took a report of a stolen sign on Leroy Avenue on May 25. The owner of the sign reported that the sign had been up for about eight years and said, “CATS SLOW CROSSING” and was a square that measured 40 by 40 inches. Fortier said they showed her a clipping from the Warwick Beacon that once did a story about the sign. The clipping and a note from the owner were taken as evidence and he did say he would press charges if the culprit was found. (The owner, James Tetreault, told the Beacon that the thief may get a measure of justice if he or she takes the wooden sign indoors: The post that supported it was infected with termites.)

REALLY STEAMED

On May 22 the owner of a property on Spring Garden Street told police he would press charges against anyone who was arrested for stealing 10 cast iron steam radiators he left in front of the garage on his property. He told police they weighed around 2,000 pounds and were worth around $1,000. Officer Julio Benros spoke with two neighbors who reported that a man stopped by their place around two weeks ago and asked about the radiators. They said he was around five feet, eight inches tall and weighed around 120 pounds and was driving an old gold sedan. The report was forwarded to detectives.

FELONY SHOPLIFTING

A Providence woman and her companion from Connecticut were arrested at the JC Penney store in Warwick Mall on May 26. Police were dispatched to the store around 3:35 p.m. for a shoplifting in progress. Dispatch advised that two women left the mall in a silver Buick with Connecticut plates with numerous bottles of perfume from the store. Officer Aaron Kay reported he spotted the suspects on Bald Hill Road and pulled it over near the Atomic Salon. Other officers arrived as Kay approached the car and its occupants. He said he got them out of the car and found boxes of perfume in their pockets and purses that were from the store. A loss prevention agent from the store arrived on the scene and identified both women as the people she saw over the closed circuit television system taking goods and leaving the store and refusing to stop for loss prevention. The women were taken to headquarters, where they were charged with shoplifting. Shareese Dennis, 43, of 47 Home Ave., Providence, was charged with felony shoplifting and for an outstanding warrant. Linda Barron, 45, of 88 Columbia St., Meriden, Conn., was charged with shoplifting and then transported to the ACI when she could not pay the $2,000 surety bail.

Officer Eric Lima was dispatched to Macy’s in Warwick Mall on May 25 to take custody of a Providence woman who loss prevention said had damaged $367 worth of clothing in her attempts to remove the sensor tags on the goods as prelude to stealing them. Loss prevention also recovered jewelry items for a total of $479.50 in goods stolen or damaged. He said they also found wire cutters that were used to remove the tags. Lima said Yomary Nunez, 34, of 316 Sharon St., had an outstanding warrant for failing to appear for a shoplifting charge in 2011 as well. She was charged with felony shoplifting and possession of implements of shoplifting.

Officer Brian Murray reported he was dispatched to a bus stop at Warwick Mall to look for a man who cut a cable and stole a cell phone before heading for the bus stop outside the Target store. Seth Cekala, 38, of 1295 Main St., West Warwick, also had two outstanding warrants and was on probation. He was transported to the ACI to await arraignment in District Court.

A West Warwick woman was charged with being a habitual offender on May 20 after she was arrested at the Walmart on Bald Hill Road for shoplifting. She was stopped by loss prevention when, they said, she left the store without paying for a purse worth $18.97. She had three prior convictions for shoplifting between 2008 and 2013. Police said she also had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in April of this year. Joyce Lynn Baxter, 31, of 42 Providence St., was held for the bail commissioner.

Matthew Joseph Eckstein, 32, of 855 Providence St., West Warwick, was charged with stealing $122.80 worth of DVDs, including two copies of “Breaking Bad,” from the Walmart store on Bald Hill Road on May 19. He was later released with a summons.

Tameka T. Gass, 31, of 42 Park St., Pawtucket, was arrested at the same Walmart on May 25 and charged with stealing 26 items worth a total of $135.10. “She was released to a sober adult in the lobby,” according to Officer Stephen Major.

Tanya Costa, 38, of 25 Rutland St., Providence, was accused of stealing 18 items worth $80.39 from the same Walmart later the same day. She was released from headquarters with a summons for District Court.

Raymond Kirstopher Kaegael, 54, of 8 Somerset St., Providence, was charged with stealing $207.90 worth of copper wire from the Lowe’s Home Improvement store at 555 Greenwich Ave. on May 23. Police said Lowe’s called on May 25 to tell them they had video of Kaegael stealing another coil of copper that was not recovered on the same day but declined to charge Kaegael with the second theft.

Irma Ortiz, 44, of 387 New York Ave., Providence, was charged with stealing an LG Home Theatre system worth $198 and a 10,000 BTU air conditioner worth $259 from the Walmart store on Post Road on May 23.

Samantha Baker, 21, of 88 KG Ranch Rd., Richmond, was arrested at JC Penney and charged with stealing assorted clothing worth $120 on May 21.

Miguel A. Jusino, 29, of 189 Clarence St., Providence, was charged with stealing a $139 microwave from the Walmart on Bald Hill Road on May 20. He was later released on $1,000 surety bail.
