HIT AND RUN?

An Ardway Avenue resident told police she came back to her car around 9:30 a.m. on June 14 and found the driver’s side mirror was smashed. She told police she wasn’t sure if someone tore the mirror off or if it was hit by a car that did not bother to stop. In any event, she found the parts scattered around her front yard. The mirror was estimated to cost $100. No witnesses.

DUI AND REFUSAL

Officer John Curley reported he was on patrol when he got a tip about a possible drunk driver had just left the Cumberland Farms store on Post Road and that the license plate came back to a North Providence resident. Curley said he went to Route 95 via the Airport Connector and pulled over to see if the suspect car passed that way. He said the car came into view and it was straddling the first and second lanes. He said he followed the car for half a mile and saw it change lanes without a signal before he pulled it over near Exit 14A. He said the driver smelled of alcohol and his speech was mumbled. He said he administered a field sobriety test on the driver that he failed. He said he determined that the driver was impaired and arrested him on suspicion of drunk driving. He said the driver refused a breath test at headquarters and was charged with DUI, refusal, laned roadway violations and not using a turn signal. Richard J. Chouinard, 47, of 16 Elena St., North Providence, was later released to a sober adult.

MISSING CAMERA

A Warwick woman came into headquarters on June 23 to report that someone stole one of her cameras while she was taking pictures in City Park. She said she was in the park around 7 a.m. and was taking pictures over by the benches and the swing sets. She said she saw some kids on bikes in the area while her bag with another camera in it and she turned back from taking pictures and saw that the bag was gone from the bench. She said she walked around the area looking for the bag with no success. She said it contained a Canon DSR camera and lens worth around $2,000. She said she did not actually see the kids take the bag but they were the only people in the area at the time. She said her insurance would cover the loss but she needed a police report to file a claim.

LARCENIES

A Connecticut man told police his car was parked in a lot between Showcase Cinemas and Texas Roadhouse around 3:30 p.m. and when he returned to the vehicle around 4:10 p.m. he saw that the passenger side window was smashed and that two phone chargers and a bag of medicines was missing. No witnesses or suspects.

Officer Albert Marano reported he got a dispatch about a larceny in progress on Knowles Drive around 2 a.m. on June 15 and that the suspect was a skinny male wearing all black clothing. Marano said he didn’t find anyone running down Knowles but met with the owner of a car that had been broken into. The man told him he heard his car alarm go off and looked out the window and saw a man in a dark hooded sweatshirt running toward Kiwanee Road. He said the window of his 2013 Kia was broken and $10 had been taken from the ashtray. He said his wife’s car had also been rummaged through but nothing was missing or damaged because it wasn’t locked. No suspect.

Officer Adam Arico reported a break into a car at Healthtrax Wellness & Fitness at 2191 Post Rd. on June 13. An East Greenwich man said he arrived at the gym around 5:45 p.m. and went inside for his workout. He said he returned to his car about an hour and 15 minutes later and saw the window was smashed and a company laptop worth $1,126 was missing. He said he called his company to report the missing laptop and the company’s IT department remotely wiped out all the information on the computer and rendered it useless. He told Arico he would call police with the serial number for the laptop on Monday, after he got it from the IT department. Arico said he checked with the management at the gym to see if they had video of the incident and was told they did not. No suspects or witnesses.

Officer Joseph DeDonato reported going to The Bank Café at 40 Post Rd. around 8:50 a.m. on June 16 for a report of a missing ceramic fountain. He said the owner of the property said it appeared the $600 ceramic fountain was taken sometime overnight and that it would have taken two men and perhaps a pickup truck to cart the fountain away. He said five concreted flowerpots were taken from the property about a month before but he had no idea if the thefts were related. A picture of the fountain was saved to show detectives who followed up on the case. No suspects or witnesses.

Officer Jason Brodeur went to the Trafalgar East Apartments at 5300 Post Rd. for a report of parts being stripped from a motorcycle. The owner told him she noticed that numerous chrome nut covers, a chrome bracket and a heat shield for the exhaust pipe were missing from her 2007 Harley Davidson Sportster. She said there was no other damage and she told him she was going to move the motorcycle into a storage unit. It had been kept under a motorcycle cover before then. No suspects or witnesses. The missing parts were worth about $423.

MISSING MOWER

Officer Geoffrey Waldman reported a lawnmower was taken from a house on Sandy Lane around 3:30 p.m. on June 14. A woman told Waldman she was mowing the lawn when she stopped to go inside to get a drink of water. She said she came out and saw that the Toro lawnmower was gone. She said it was about one year old and too new to be mistaken for junk. She said she spoke with some neighbors but most of them were not at home and she could not find anyone who saw what happened. Waldman said he conducted a search of the area but did not find a suspect or the mower. The report was forwarded to detectives.
