OUT AT THE WHEEL

Officer John Curley reported he was dispatched to a house on Harrison Avenue for a report of a man asleep at the wheel of a black Jeep Cherokee on June 20. The homeowner told dispatch the Jeep pulled up in front of the house around 8 p.m. and did not move for close to a half-hour. Curley said the man was slumped over the wheel with his foot on the brake and the car in “drive.” Curley said he reached in and put the Jeep in “park” and then woke the man up. He said he was speaking with the driver when he spotted several syringes on the back seat. He said he ordered the driver out of the car and patted him down. He said he asked if he had any needles on him and the man said there was a needle loaded with heroin. He said the driver took a portable breath test and registered a .08. He said he arrested the driver for the loaded syringe and found some hashish, a concentrate of marijuana resin, in a wax paper bag in the console. Devin D. Dennis, 22, of 399 Columbus Ave. in Pawtucket, was charged with possession of controlled substances and held as a probation violator.

LARCENY

A woman who lives on Westchester Way told police she was not sure if the damage and theft of items from her truck occurred at Flood Ford in East Greenwich where it was parked for a week, or after it was towed back to her residence, but a touch-screen radio, a “jump box’ and a radar detector were missing from the truck. The cost of the missing items was given as $800 in total. No suspects. The report was forwarded to detectives.

WARRANTS

Officer Adam Arico reported he stopped a car on West Shore Road because the driver and passenger were not wearing seat belts and ended up arresting Justin Sweet, 28, of 112 Custer St. in Warwick on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in District Court. Sweet was held for the bail commissioner.

Officer John Curley reported stopping a car on Post Road on June 27 because the driver wasn’t wearing his seat belt. He said the driver, Susan Rogers, 54, of 130 Sumter St. in Providence had a suspended license and an outstanding warrant for failure to appear. She was held for the bail commissioner.

An Ohio man who told Officer Manuel Pacheco he was soliciting money for the Hands of God organization didn’t tell him he had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in Sixth District Court. Corey Terry, 40, of 4262 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. in Cleveland was held for the bail commissioner.

Officer David Waddington reported going to the Tavern Twelve on Post Road around 1 a.m. on June 27 to break up a fight. He said the manager told him one of the men left before Waddington arrived but the second man, who appeared unsteady on his feet and smelled of alcohol, turned out to have an outstanding warrant for failure to appear for a prior charge of disorderly conduct. Eric J. Flanagan, 33, of 64 Claypool Dr. in Warwick was arrested and later transported to the ACI, after he threatened to get Waddington when he was off duty and said, “You better watch out on your next day off.”

Officer Adam Arico reported an accident on June 26 that involved two cars, one of which was wanted for failure to appear for an ability to pay hearing in 2013, for fines of $2,195. Gary E. Evans, 49, of 39 Manning Dr. in Riverside, was held for the bail commissioner.

DUI AND REFUSAL

Sgt. Scott Robillard reported that he saw a dark colored pickup truck do a “burn-out” on Route 5 and then accelerated to a high rate of speed into Warwick from Cranston around 12:55 a.m. on June 1. He said he followed the truck onto Route 95 after seeing it do 55 miles per hour in a 25 miles per hour zone while straddling several lanes of travel. He said he saw the truck go 85 miles per hour before he stopped it at Exit 10 south. He said the driver had bloodshot eyes and smelled strongly of alcohol. He said he gave the driver a field sobriety test and he failed it. He said Darryl J. Pono, 30, of 2065 Division Rd. in East Greenwich, was charged with DUI and refusal at headquarters. He was also charged with speeding and laned roadway violations.

Officer Manuel Pacheco reported being dispatched to the Burger King at 2615 West Shore Rd., around 11:10 p.m. for a report of a drunk driver who had just left the drive-thru lane. He said he was on his way when he heard it had returned to the drive thru and he found it at the second window. He said the counter person was telling the driver he had already been through the line and Pacheco honked his horn to get the driver’s attention and he drove off erratically onto West Shore Road. He said he followed the car as it swerved from lane to lane and then pulled it over near the Whalen. He said the driver appeared drunk and smelled of alcohol and there were beer cans on the passenger side floor. He said the driver failed a field sobriety test. He said he found eight open beer cans and six sealed cans on the floor of the car. Victor Alan Martone, 60, of 212 Sandy Lane in Warwick was charged with DUI, refusal and laned roadway violations and later released to a sober adult.

Officer Christian Vargas reported stopping a car he observed operating erratically near Shaw’s Plaza around 9:15 p.m. on June 7. He said he pulled the car over just after the Stop & Shop in Cranston. He said the driver admitted he started drinking beer around 5 p.m. and Vargas had the driver take a field sobriety test, and he failed it. He said Baudilio Orellana, 41, of 10 Calla St. in Providence took a breath test at headquarters and registered a .289 and a .288 blood alcohol content. He was charged with driving without a license, after he admitted he never applied for one, and laned roadway violations and was then transported to Kent Hospital for detox.

SHOPLIFTING

Nicholas J. D’Andrea, 19, of 319 Providence St. in West Warwick was charged with shoplifting a $32 pair of sunglasses from the JC Penney store in the Warwick Mall on June 9. Loss prevention told police they recovered the sunglasses from his backpack when they stopped him outside. He was later released with a summons.

Michelle D. Tisbert, 32, of 31 New London Ave. in West Warwick was charged with stealing three pairs of sunglasses from the Wal-Mart store on Bald Hill Road on June 28. Loss prevention told police they also recovered a bottle of aftershave and two packages of razors worth at total of $44.06. She was later released with a summons.

Juan Reyes, 32, of 160 Broad St. in Providence was charged with stealing a man’s watch from the Sears store in the Rhode Island Mall on June 28. Loss prevention at the store told police they saw him select a Casio watch from a display and conceal it before leaving the store without paying for it. He was held as a probation violator with a prior shoplifting charge.
