DOG GONE

Police said a Warwick Avenue man was drunk when he assaulted a manager at the Wendy’s restaurant at 771 Warwick Ave. around 10 p.m. on Aug. 1. Officer John Curley reported he was dispatched to the restaurant for a report of a customer striking a manager there. Dispatch told officers the man was outside the restaurant yelling at customers in the drive-thru line but they lost sight of the suspect. Curley said he found the man in the parking lot of the AutoZone store next door and placed him under arrest due to his belligerence and intoxication. Witnesses told police that the man arrived at the restaurant on his bicycle and was told to move it to an area where it would not get hit by cars entering the lot. They said the man complied, came inside, ordered food and was attempting to make small talk with employees who realized he was intoxicated. The man himself told Curley that he got his food when he realized that the staff had stolen his dog and he yelled at them to call the police but they refused, and refused to let him call the police. Curley said he asked the man where his dog was right then and the man told him it was back at his residence, which did not make sense in light of him accusing the staff of stealing it. He said there was a minor injury to the arm of the manager that she told police came from the suspect hitting her as they were locking him out of the store and calling police. Michael S. DiChiara, 51, of 811 Warwick Ave. was taken to headquarters and charged with simple assault.

NO FARE

Officer Dale Drowne reported being dispatched to the Motel 6 on Jefferson Boulevard for a dispute between a taxi driver and a passenger about a fare. Drowne said he found the passenger on the ground, being restrained by the driver. Drowne said he helped the passenger get to his feet and put the handcuffs on him. He said the 62-year-old cabdriver told him he didn’t want to press assault charges against the man because he was so drunk it was easy to subdue him and wait for police, even if he did attempt to attack him. Drowne said the passenger had a warrant out for failure to appear in District Court anyway, so Michael Breard, 46, of 217 Knight St. in Warwick was transported to the ACI.

SHOPLIFTING

Det. Joseph Mee reported he was doing a follow-up investigation of a shoplifting that occurred on May 14. He said surveillance footage from Haxton’s Liquors in Meadowbrook and a license plate number taken down by an employee at the time of the theft led him to the father of one of the men in the surveillance footage, which led him to the girlfriend of the man who actually took the bottle of Ciroc vodka and placed it in his pocket before leaving the store without paying for it. Mee said the suspect agreed to come in for an interview and confessed that he stupidly took the vodka and that the other man in the surveillance had nothing to do with the theft. Scott D. Goodenough, 31, of 52 Hollywood Ave. in Warwick was charged with misdemeanor shoplifting on July 29 and later released with a summons.

Officer Raymond Cox reported arresting a Warwick woman for stealing $108.38 worth of groceries on Aug. 2. He said loss prevention at the Stop & Shop in Meadowbrook told Cox they saw her conceal a package of rib-eye steaks in her purse and switching stickers on bowls of mixed fruit before using the self-checkout lane. They said she did pay for about $200 worth of groceries but the $108.38 was not paid for. Doreen L. McCarron, 53, of 24 Shadbush Rd. in Warwick was later released with a summons.

Officer Aaron Kay reported arresting two men at the Rhode Island Mall on July 31 after loss prevention at the Wal-Mart store identified them as the two men who stole a fishing pole. Kay said one of the men was arrested at the Sears store next door and the other was arrested when he drove up in his car to pick up the first suspect at Sears. Nicholas A. Bushell Parrillo, 20, of 65 Crescendo Dr. in Warwick, and George St. Laurent, 21, of 37 Brookfield Dr. in Cranston where held for the bail commissioner. Both men were told they were no longer welcome at the Wal-Mart store and would be arrested for trespassing if they returned.

DUI AND REFUSAL

Officer Jamey Petit reported he was on Toll Gate Road around 1 a.m. on July 27 when he saw a car make a turn onto Bald Hill Road without using a turn signal. He said he followed the car as it accelerated rapidly until he estimated it was doing 80 miles per hour. Petit said he pulled the car over near Hearthside Patio and told the driver he stopped him for doing around 80 miles per hour in a posted 35 and the driver said, “No, I wasn’t. I was doing 70.”

Petit said he was administering a field sobriety test when the driver said, “I can’t do this. It’s too cold outside.” Petit said he reminded the driver that it was 80 degrees outside and that he agreed to do the test. He said they proceeded with the test, which the driver was failing until he refused to do the one-legged stand. The driver was arrested and taken to headquarters where he refused to take a breath test. Joseph Lefebvre, 20, of 320 Maple St. in Warwick was charged with DUI and refusal and given a ticket for an obscured rear license plate due to a large frame surrounding it.

Officer Aaron Kay reported he was on patrol around 11:50 p.m. on July 31 when he heard a dispatch about a possible drunk driver on Centerville Road. He said he found the suspect car near Diamond Hill Road and saw it swerving all over the road until he pulled it over and it came to a stop with its tire against the curb. He said the woman driving the car smelled of alcohol and admitted she was coming from a party and said she only had two drinks and was just trying to get home. He said her speech was slurred and she appeared to be drunk. He said he gave her a field sobriety test and she failed it. He said she was taken to headquarters where, after some evasiveness, finally gave him a sample for the breath test. She registered a .169 and a .176 blood alcohol content on the breath test. He said Yuberelis Montas Robillard, 32, of 483 Dexter St. in Providence was charged with DUI and later released to a sober adult.
