The State Police press release said the initial investigation revealed that a red Honda Fit was traveling west on Route 101 approximately 200 yards prior to the Connecticut State Line when the operator lost control due to poor road conditions and veered into the eastbound lane. The Honda Fit was then struck in the passenger side by a silver Toyota corolla that was traveling east on Route 101.

The operator of the Honda Fit, Siobhan E. Ross-Humphries, age 45, of Providence, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The operator of the Toyota Corolla, George Loiselle, 77, of Warwick, was transported to Day Kimble Hospital in Connecticut.
