VANDALS

A Cranston man told police someone “keyed” his 2013 BMW while it was parked outside of Macy’s in Warwick Mall on Jan. 19. The man told Officer Scott Chanthaphouvong he and his wife were in Macy’s shopping from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and found that someone had scratched the front and back driver’s side doors on the car. Chanthaphouvong said he looked at video surveillance from Macy’s but the quality was too poor to be of any use as evidence. No suspects or witnesses.

Officer Charles Austin reported a call from AAA Restaurant Fire Control on Chestnut Street around midnight on Jan. 19 about a window in a company van being broken. He said he spoke with an employee who said he was working in the garage when he heard a loud bang. When he went outside to see what it was, he found that one of the vans had a broken side window. He told Austin he looked inside the van to see if there was a rock or some other object used to break the window inside the van but found nothing. He said he saw nothing else and there were no suspects or other witnesses.

SWEPT UP

Officer Matthew Higgins reported he was dispatched to Adrian Street around 4:40 p.m. on Jan. 19 for a report of a stolen vacuum cleaner. The owner told Higgins he took his vacuum cleaner outside and left it beside his car, which was parked in front of the house. He said he planned to use the vacuum to clean his vehicle and then went inside to get an electrical cord to plug the vacuum in. When he came back outside, about five minutes later, the $120 Hoover machine was gone. There were no witnesses or suspects.

LARCENIES

Officer David Waddington reported going to the Four Seasons Apartments on Warwick Avenue on Jan. 17. He said a man there was standing beside his car in the lot who explained he came to visit a friend in the building around 9:50 a.m. and returned to his car around one hour later to find it had been broken into. He said a backpack he left on the floor had been taken and that it contained a number of electronics inside. He said a Beats earphone set and cables worth $550, an iPad valued at $700 and a smaller iPad worth $200, Gucci sunglasses worth $350, a charger worth $40 and the backpack itself that cost $75. No suspects or witnesses.

Officer Timothy Tavares reported the theft of a snowplow from the Shalvey Brothers Landscaping on Warwick Industrial Drive on Jan. 13. He said he first noticed that the gate fence was down and blocking part of the road around 5 a.m. He had dispatch call the owners. One of the owners told him no one was at the address since 3:30 p.m. the day before and left the property locked up when they left. He said it appeared that the gate had been knocked down, possibly rammed by a large vehicle that left yellow paint transfer on the crossbeam of the gate. He said the owner did a quick inventory and said two snowplows were missing from trucks. He said one of the trucks was not parked where it should have been and was probably used to knock down the gate. He also said that each plow was worth around $5,000 and the gate would cost around $1,000 to repair. No suspects or witnesses.

Officer Melissa Schlitzer reported that two cars on Tiffany Avenue were found without tires and wheels on Jan. 12. One of the vehicle owners told police he was walking his dog around 5:30 a.m. when he noticed that his car was up on bricks and all four wheels were gone from his 2014 Mazda 6. He told police the car was intact around 11 p.m. when he walked his dog the night before. He said the 19-inch Michelin tires and factory rims were worth $2,400. She said she spoke with a next-door neighbor who told her his neighbor called around 5:30 to report that the wheels from his Mazda 6, a 2015 model, were also missing. He said they also had 19-inch Michelin tires and factory rims worth $2,400. All the lug nuts and a lock bolt were left behind. The lock bolt was taken to BCI for possible partial print. No other cars on the street were affected. No suspects or witnesses.

BIG SHOPLIFTING

Officer Stephen Major reported he was dispatched to Macy’s in Warwick Mall on Jan. 13 for a report of three people running out of the store with a number of North Face jackets in their arms. They said they saw them get into a blue Ford pickup truck with Florida plates. Major said he ran the plates but got no information about them. He said they reviewed the surveillance video and saw three people enter the store, two females and a male. They then gathered about eight to 10 jackets and ran out of the mall into the pickup and drove off. Loss prevention told Major the jackets were worth between $2,000 and $2,500. No other information was available.

DUI AND REFUSAL

Officer Timothy Tavares reported stopping a car on Post Road around 1:10 a.m. on Jan. 17. He said the car had been swerving from lane to lane. He said he stopped it at 2003 Post Road at the Sunoco station. He said the woman’s breath smelled of alcohol and she appeared to be under the influence. He said she admitted she had “a couple” at the Gridiron Bar earlier. He said he began to give her a field sobriety test but, after failing to walk heel to toe in a straight line, she said she no longer wanted to do the test. The driver was taken to headquarters, where she refused to take a breath test. Cynthia C. Leblanc, 52, of 200 Post Rd. in Warwick, was charged with DUI, refusal and laned roadway violations.
