Officer David Thompson reported more tires and rims taken from cars overnight. This time it was at the Briarwood Meadows Apartments on Quaker Lane. The owner of a 2015 Mazda 6 told Thompson he parked his car around 7 p.m. on Jan. 17 and returned the next morning to find the car propped up on rocks and all four wheels gone. The owner said the wheels were a $2,000 optional upgrade for the car when he bought it. No suspects or witnesses.

She said she came back around 10:20 a.m. and found the car propped up on rocks and all the wheels gone. Thompson said she had locking lug nuts on the wheels but the thief or thieves defeated them. He said the rocks in both cases looked like they came from the immediate area. No suspects or witnesses.

She said she went back when she realized she didn’t have her phone but was unable to find it. He said no one at the Mall Security office had it and the Find My iPhone app at the AT&T store didn’t succeed in finding it. On Jan. 13 loss prevention at the Macy’s store in Warwick Mall told police they caught a Narragansett woman concealing six items worth $397.36 and attempting to leave the store without paying for the goods. They gave video surveillance they said showed Alexandra C. Foster, 27, of 33 Birchwood Dr., in the act. She was processed at headquarters and then taken back to the mall, where she was told she mustn’t come to Warwick Mall for at least one year and that she would be arrested for trespassing if she did.

Officer Quentin Tavares said he traced the plate of the getaway car to Lopez Lopez and asked her to come to headquarters. She came later that day and confessed to the shoplifting but refused to name her friend. She only said her name was Emily and she could be reached at a certain phone number. He said he called the number and asked for Emily and the woman who answered said she was Emily but hung up when Tavares identified himself. Lopez Lopez was charged and released with a summons.

DUI AND REFUSAL

Officer Russell Brown reported dispatch had a call about a witness following a Ford SUV around 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 18 and that the vehicle was all over the road and even went up on the sidewalk on Post Road. The witness said it had Connecticut plates and had finally stopped at a Valero gas station. Brown said he got there in time to see it leave the station and head up Post Road in the northbound lane until it turned onto Route 37, where it went from lane to lane until it stopped for Brown. He said the driver had watery eyes and was looking down at his lap. He said the man told him he was coming from Boston and heading for Connecticut. He told Brown he took the wrong exit. Brown said there was a moderate smell of alcohol about the driver even as he was denying he drank anything. Brown said he told the man that a witness had been following him and asked him why he stopped in the Valero station, and the man said he relieved himself in the parking lot. He said the driver took a field sobriety test and nearly fell over before they quit it for safety’s sake. He said the man was arrested for suspected DUI and taken to headquarters. Four bottles containing varies of substances were found in the vehicle; two of the bottles appeared to have a “rock” of crack cocaine each. The third bottle had three Xanex tablets, five oxycodone pills. The rocks tested positive for cocaine. Brown said the man agreed to take a breath test but only pretended to blow into the machine. After several more opportunities to do it properly that were faked instead, Eric Edge, 48, of 70 Hewitt Rd., North Stonington, Conn., was charged with refusal to take a chemical test and DUI. He said it changed lanes without signals and continued swerving. He said he signaled it to pull over and it pulled over into the left side of the road. He said he used his spotlight to get the driver’s attention and managed to get him over several lanes and out of a near miss before it stopped in the breakdown lane. He said the owner of the car was in the passenger seat and a man was driving. He said he advised the driver why he was stopped and the driver apologized and said they were coming from a party and heading home to East Greenwich. Kay said the driver admitted he had been drinking and was aware that he was swerving around the road. He said the driver agreed to a field sobriety test. He said the driver was unsteady on his feet and failed the test. Keith D. Carberry, 51, of 1220 South County Rd., East Greenwich, was charged with DUI and refusal and later released to a sober adult.
