A trooper reported he was traveling east on Route 403 around 8:30 p.m. in North Kingstown when he observed a vehicle traveling west in the eastbound lanes. The trooper stopped the Dodge Ram pickup truck equipped with a snowplow as it approached. The vehicle was not being used to plow snow when it was stopped, nor was it a Rhode Island Department of Transportation sub-contractor. Cunha submitted to a field sobriety test and failed it. He refused to submit to a preliminary breath test and was transported to the Wickford Barracks, where he refused to submit to a breath test. Cunha was released on $1,000 personal recognizance.

The man said they were inside the Cozy Grill from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. and when they came out they saw that the placard was gone. He said they left the car unlocked. He said he also double-checked around his house to make sure it hadn’t been just misplaced before he called police. No suspect or witnesses.

SHOPLIFTING

Police went to Warwick Mall on Jan. 24 to pick up a man mall security was holding for shoplifting. An agent there told police he saw a man take a Seahawks knit cap from a kiosk and walk away without paying for it. He said he found the man inside the mall and retrieved the hat and called police. Russell P. King, 19, of 31 New London Ave., West Warwick, was taken to headquarters and charged with stealing the $39.99 knit hat. He was later released with a summons.

Police were dispatched to the Walmart on Post Road on Jan. 23 for a shoplifting suspect who was stopped outside the store and dropped the stolen merchandise, about $208.72 worth of clothing and food, and fled the scene. Officers searching the area encountered a woman at a bus stop who matched the description given by loss prevention. The loss prevention agent came to the bus stop and identified Maureen Harris, 54, of 39 Miles Ave., East Providence, as the suspect. She was charged with shoplifting and then held for the next session of District Court.

Officer Rose Michel reported that she got a call about a man asleep at the pump at the Hess station on Airport Road around 2:25 a.m. on Jan. 20. She said she arrived to find another officer at the scene questioning the driver. The other officer said he found the driver slumped over the wheel of the car and woke him up. He said he woke up and violently grabbed the steering wheel and jerked it from side to side before looking around in a confused manner. Michel said the driver smelled of alcohol and appeared to be drunk. She said he became combative and uncooperative when she asked him to take a field sobriety test. She said he put his hands in his pocket and refused to answer questions, so she had him turn around for a patdown search and they found a Go Pro camera in his pocket. She said he was taken to headquarters, where he continued to be argumentative and refused to take a breath test.
