Police ramp up ‘Click it or Ticket’ campaign

The Warwick Police, state and local law enforcement agencies and highway safety advocates across the country are united to help save more lives by strongly enforcing seat belt laws around the clock.

Efforts across the country are attempting to increase seat belt use. From Sept. 24 to Sept. 30, there will be a campaign to increase usage by stepping up the issuing of tickets.

“Our goal is to save more lives, so the Warwick Police Department will be out enforcing seat belt laws around the clock.” said Lt. Michael Gilbert.

Seat belt use saves thousands of lives across America each year. While this Click It or Ticket enforcement mobilization ends Sept. 30, Gilbert said motorists should know that officers would be out enforcing seat belt laws year-round.

“Motorists should buckle up every time they go out, both day and night,” said Gilbert. “Our officers are prepared to ticket anyone not buckled up … no warnings and no excuses. ‘Click It or Ticket.’”
