Prelude to the 4th

It was an intimate group that gathered for the Riverview Improvement Association Independence Day parade and cookout Sunday. Two vehicles and a dozen or so marchers including Mayor Scott Avedisian, Ward 5 Councilman Ed Ladouceur and Representative District 22 Democratic candidate Joseph Solomon Jr. walked all of three blocks before arriving at the Lippitt Street shoreline park, where they saluted the flag and sang the national anthem before enjoying burgers and hot dogs grilled by independent candidate for mayor Kevin Eisemann. But while candidates and elected officials, including School Committee member Mary T. Mederious and Frank Ferri, candidate for lieutenant governor, also attended, politics wasn’t on the menu. Rather, it was a non-partisan occasion to enjoy the summer bay breeze and pause to think about the country.
