President of Northpoint Bible College speaking at Sunday celebration

Doctor David Arnett, president of Northpoint Bible College, will be the guest speaker at Heritage Christian Fellowship on Warwick Neck this Sunday in a celebration recognizing the legacy of Robert and Irene Gooding.

Dr. Arnett, president of Northpoint Bible College, has 11 years of administrative experience, 21 years of teaching over 43 courses in Bible, Christian education, leadership, pastoral ministry, and theology on a college level, and 30 years of pastoral service. He received his doctorate from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary. In 1924 Northpoint Bible College (formerly Zion Bible College) was founded by Rev. Christine Gibson for the purpose of preparing men and women for Pentecostal ministry. The school started in East Providence and in 1985 relocated to Barrington. In 2008, the college was miraculously blessed with its current beautiful and historic 18-acre residential campus, located in Haverhill, Massachusetts. There are now thousands of Northpoint alumni serving all over the world in various fields of ministry, and for over 90 years Northpoint Bible College has continued to stand by this vision: to teach and train students for excellent Pentecostal ministry.

During Dr. Arnett’s visit, Pastor John Gibson will present $5,000 to Dr. Arnett for the establishment of the Robert and Irene Gooding Scholarship at Northpoint.

For over 40 years, Pastor and Mrs. Gooding ministered in Warwick, and education was one of their passions. During the time Northpoint (Zion) was in East Providence, Pastor Gooding was a frequent speaker at the school. In addition to his ministry at the school, many future ministers preached their first sermons at Apponaug Pentecostal Church. In talking with students who visited their church, they say that as much as they enjoyed the ministry experience, it was Mrs. Gooding’s meals and desserts that made their trips to Warwick a special time.

The Goodings’ desire was to continue to minister to people after their passing. As a result, they left a portion of their estate to Mrs. Gooding’s last home church, Heritage Christian Fellowship. Reflecting on the many years of cooperation between the Goodings and Northpoint Bible College, the leadership of Heritage Christian Fellowship decided to honor the Goodings with the establishment this scholarship. They welcome this opportunity to start this tribute to two people whose ministry encouraged many young people to enter the ministry. During his years as a pastor, Rev. Gooding often opened his own wallet to give to struggling students. We trust that as the years pass, many others will be helped by generosity.

The celebration this Sunday at 10:45 a.m. is open to the public. Heritage Christian Fellowship is located at 366 Warwick Neck Avenue in Warwick.
