Price Rite Supermarkets, which has stores in Cranston, Johnston, Pawtucket, Providence and Warwick, announced the launch of its annual Check-Out Hunger fundraising campaign, which will benefit local food banks in communities served by Price Rite stores across the northeast.

Through Dec. 31, Price Rite shoppers can add a $1, $3 or $5 donation to their bill, and 100 percent of the funds raised will be donated to local hunger-fighting charities and organizations. The supermarket chain contributes approximately $500,000 annually to local food banks and food pantries to benefit local families in need within the communities it serves.

"Fighting hunger in the local community is at the heart of Price Rite's charitable giving, and this campaign would not be a success without the drive from our store associates and the generosity of our customers, who make it possible to continue to support this worthy cause."

Since 2002, Price Rite has raised over $1.2 million for the Check-Out Hunger initiative to benefit 22 Feeding America Food Banks in eight states. Donations support the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
