Program to showcase state's central waste facilities

Skip the reruns of “The Big Bang Theory” and tune into programming about real science in action.

Dump trucks. Hazardous waste. Grinders and chippers. Machines bigger than your house, and plenty of other visually interesting industrial gear.

The state interconnect will air a 30-minute insider view of the state’s central waste facilities – including the Central Landfill and Materials Recycling Facility – eight times in March. Rhode Island Resource Recovery produced the video, which blends video footage of its operations with animation.

“Even people who come for an actual tour won’t see our facilities this up close,” said Krystal Noiseux, recycling program manager. “In the video, we are able to show how we sort, bury, grind, or bale household waste. It’s a massive effort involving 1 million tons of garbage, recyclables, yard waste and more.”

The program will air on Cox Cable Channel 13 and Verizon Channel 32 on March 11 at 9 p.m. and March 6 and March 13 at 3:30 p.m.

Viewers in Providence and North Providence can watch on Monday nights in March on Cox Channel 18 and Verizon Channel 38.
