Providence Jingle Bell Run for Arthritis awareness set for Dec. 7 at Slater Park

The Arthritis Foundation is hosting the Providence Jingle Bell Run on Sunday, Dec. 7th at Slater Memorial Park located at 451 Newport Avenue in Pawtucket.

Jingle Bell Runs are timed 5K races raising funds for research for a cure while encouraging a great time. Join in on social media by posting your #elfieselfie on Facebook or Twitter!

Registration starts at 9 a.m., with the race starting at 10 a.m.

After the race will be prizes for best costumes and information about Arthritis and its related diseases.

The Jingle Bell Run/Walk began in 1984 to raise awareness of the most common cause of disability in the United States, while also raising needed funds for research, health education and government advocacy to improve the lives of people with arthritis.

The ambassadors for the Jingle Bell Run are sisters Isabella and Tessa, who have been diagnosed with Arthitis. Isabella is nine, and in fourth grade. She was diagnosed before she was seven, and loves to dance and sing. Although Isabella has arthritis, she won’t let it stop her from becoming a scientist. Tessa is five years old, and like her sister has pauciarticular juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Tessa was diagnosed at the age of 18 months. Both sisters are encouraged by their parents to stay extremely active as this helps both girls battle their disease every day.

Arthritis affects 2.7 million adults and 13,000 children in New England. Join with other New   Englanders to help raise funds to find a cure. This is a great opportunity for members of the community to help support the Arthritis Foundation in their mission to prevent, control and cure the over 100 types of arthritis and related diseases.
