Providence man arrested on child molestation, sexual assault charges

Posted

A Providence man has been arrested on child molestation and sexual assault charges following an investigation in Cranston.

Members of the Cranston Police Department Special Victims Unit took Sergio Resto, 31, of 65 Gillen St., into custody on Thursday.

He is charged with two counts of first-degree child molestation, and one count each of second-degree child molestation and first-degree sexual assault. He was arraigned in Kent County District Court and is being held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institution.

According to a release from Cranston police, the investigation leading to Resto’s arrest began when a 14-year-old female victim filed a sexual assault complaint against him in April 2014. In May 2015, police said, a second victim – this time a 16-year-old male – filed a complaint accusing Resto of similar acts.

“Both victims were residing with Mr. Resto in the City of Cranston at the time of the alleged assaults,” police said.

Cranston detectives, working with the Rhode Island Department of Children Youth and Families and the attorney general’s office, “conducted an extensive investigation” and subsequently obtained an arrest warrant, police said.

Detectives began searching for Resto before he turned himself in at the department’s Garfield Avenue headquarters Thursday morning.

I'm sure once he is released, someone from the ACLU would be happy to take him and let him live happily ever after with them....after all, his rights are very important.
