Question 5 a benefit to all Rhode Islaners

Posted

I was thrilled to see Mayor Scott Avedisian at the Ocean State Theatre on Monday, supporting the local effort to pass Question 5 on Election Day. Mayor Avedisian is the latest in a long line of community leaders to recognize the economic value in Rhode Island’s arts and cultural industry.

Theaters, performing arts facilities and historic properties play a large role in establishing Rhode Island as an attractive tourist destination. The bond proposed in Question 5 would support extensive, much-needed renovation and restoration projects at nine local performing arts facilities. Those projects would create jobs for thousands of local construction workers, and the completion of the projects will boost business at local shops, restaurants, hotels and attractions.

Voting Yes on Question 5 is making a sound investment. The nine organizations named in the bond already generate a combined $150 million in annual economic activity. They have already created more than 1,900 permanent, well-paying jobs for hard-working Rhode Islanders. The projects named in Question 5 would let Rhode Island build on one of its most successful and marketable assets.

Approving Question 5 will benefit all Rhode Islanders, from construction workers to bartenders to full-time actors and actresses. It will create jobs, boost the local economy and build on Rhode Island’s status as a regional tourism attraction.

Simply put, it’s an opportunity we can’t afford to miss.

I will proudly stand with the mayor on Election Day and vote Yes on Question 5. I strongly urge all Rhode Islanders to do the same.

Dear Mr. Gennaro, I am not sure if it means anything that Avedisian was at the Ocean State Theatre on Monday. Where there is any type of photo-op you will usually find him.

We could care less if that crook Avedisian was there and no, everyone vote to reject every single question on the ballot that asks to borrow more money! We are in enough debt! no!
