R. Marcel LaRiviere, 90, of Raleigh, North Carolina died Friday morning, January 2, 2015.

Born on September 24, 1924, he was a native of Providence, Rhode Island. Marcel was a systems analyst for Nortel Networks Corporation when he retired in 1994. He began his career at the BIF Corporation in Providence where he worked for 23 years and also worked for the City of Warwick, Rhode Island and for the Speidel Corporation in Providence. Marcel was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.

Marcel, a thoroughly devoted family man, was also an accomplished amateur musician, who played saxophone, clarinet and a variety of keyboard instruments throughout his life. He was an avid gardener as well, and took great pride in raising flowers and vegetables in his raised-bed gardens year after year.

He is survived by his wife Mary Roberta (Zefaro) LaRiviere; and their four children, Paul R. LaRiviere of Barrington, Rhode Island, Mark L. LaRiviere of Greenwich, Connecticut, Andrew R. LaRiviere and Jeanne Marie (LaRiviere) Driver, both of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina; and by their sixteen grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by his sister, M. Lorraine (LaRiviere) Blankenship of Defuniak Springs, Florida.

Visitation hours were held Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at the Renaissance Funeral Home, 7615 Six Forks Road in Raleigh from 6-8pm. A funeral Mass took place Wednesday, January 7 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 2718 Overbrook Drive in Raleigh. Burial followed at the Oakwood Cemetery.
