The Rhode Island Civic Chorale and Orchestra will hold its May concerts, featuring Benjamin Britten’s Cantata Misericordium and Simple Symphony, and Gabriel Fauré ’s beloved Requiem. Saturday, May 14 at 7:30 p.m. at Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, 30 Fenner Street, Providence and Sunday, May 15 at 3 p.m. at St. Joseph ’s Church, 5 Mann Avenue, Newport.

Cantata Misericordium was composed for and first performed on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Red Cross, September 1, 1963, and tells the story of the Good Samaritan. RICCO is proud to honor the Rhode Island Chapter of the Red Cross, who is commemorating their 100th anniversary in 2016, and will donate $7 from every advanced, senior, and regular priced ticket sold to the Red Cross Home Fire Campaign. The Red Cross will display their traveling exhibit: “A Century of Service ” at the concert venues.

Soloists for the performances will be newcomer and graduate of the Boston University Opera Institute, soprano Kelley Hollis, internationally acclaimed tenor William Hite, and accomplished baritone Aaron Engebreth, who joins RICCO as soloist for the seventh time.

The concerts will be conducted by RICCO music director of 30 years, Dr. Edward Markward.

Tickets are $24 and $30; students are $10. For additional information contact 521-5670, www.ricco.org, or email info@ricco.org.
