RI International Film Festival in full gear

The Rhode Island International Film Festival kicked off its weeklong festivities Tuesday night with a series of short films, all eligible for Academy Award nominations, at the Providence Performing Arts Center.

The festival is the only one in New England that qualifies short film nominations for the prestigious award.

Venues for film showings run from Woonsocket to Jamestown, with a majority of the films shown at Vets Auditorium, RISD’s Metcalf Auditorium and URI’s Pell Theatre on Washington St. in downtown Providence.

From now through Sunday you can catch hundreds of short films and full-length features, priced at $10.

The short film showings usually include a half dozen offerings, and you can catch many double bills of feature documentaries and quality movies.

We’ve enjoyed the festival every year and look forward to some of the best independent films in the world, shown right here in our little state.
