IFC Midnight has picked up the North American distribution rights to “Almost Human,” the alien abduction horror film and directorial debut of Coventry native Joe Begos.

The modestly budgeted feature premiered at the prestigious 38th Toronto International Film Festival and was written, produced and directed by Begos. His longtime friend, Josh Ethier, was the lead actor who also produced, edited and provided sound design.

The film was a co-production of Channel 83 Films and the Rhode Island-based Ambrosino/Delmenico production company. Local filmmaker Anthony Ambrosino produced while his business partner, Nicholas Delmenico, provided line producing and production management duties.

“Almost Human” was filmed throughout the Ocean State, including Coventry, Cranston, Little Compton, East Greenwich and West Greenwich. It co-stars Graham Skipper, Vanessa Leigh and Anthony Amaral III.

“We are very proud to be a part of this project and have the opportunity to show off not only our beautiful state, but the work of the very talented locals that brought this production to life,” said co-producer Nicholas Delmenico.

Anthony Ambrosino added, “Getting acquired by IFC Midnight [owned by AMC Network] is crazy for a small film like this but it is a testament to Joe Begos and the rest of our cast and crew.”

“We are so happy for Anthony, Nicholas, Joe, Josh and their amazing team,” said Steven Feinberg, executive director of the Rhode Island Film & TV Office. “They had a dream to make movies and turned those dreams into actions. Throughout the years, I have witnessed them build their careers on various film and television production sets in Rhode Island. They gained experience, education, relationships and, together, have persevered to become wonderfully successful filmmakers with a phenomenal future ahead.”

Ambrosino and Delmenico will join Feinberg at Roger Williams University on Friday, Oct. 18 at 10 a.m. in the Mary Teftt White Cultural Center at the University Library in Bristol to discuss the film and how they have been building a film career in their home state. Admission is free.
