The Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra closed out its regular season last week by honoring its founder, Maestro Francis Madeira, on his induction into the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame.
On a sadder note, the orchestra paid a touching tribute to Concertmaster Charles “Chuck” Sherba, who passed away recently. Conductor Larry Rachleff closed the evening by placing a single white rose on the 1st violinists’ chair.
But wait. The season isn’t over yet!
The Philharmonic is bringing in world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma for a grand gala to celebrate their 70th anniversary. There will be one performance only on Sunday, June 1 at 7 p.m.
Priority seating is available for subscribers to the 2014/2015 season. Why wouldn’t any classical music lover not subscribe?
Every guest artist appearing with the Philharmonic this season has heaped praise on the orchestra and Rachleff. And it is not just lip service. We have one great orchestra here in Rhode Island with world class musicians. Flutist Susan Thomas and oboist Cheryl Bishkoff could play with any orchestra in the world. It is a fact that most of the members are from the Boston area, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that the Philharmonic is “our” orchestra.
Call 248-7000 today to reserve your seat for the June 1 concert. While you are at it, think seriously about becoming a season subscriber.
