Roberta E. Doyle
strategic weapons mathematician
Roberta E. Doyle, 85, died July 9, 2011 at South County Nursing Home.
Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Hannah (Fielding) Eichenfeldt. A graduate of Emmanuel College in Boston, Roberta started her career with the U.S. Army as a strategic weapons mathematician. During this tenure she met her husband-to-be, John F. Doyle, with whom she spent 53 years. She received her master’s degree from Fitchburg College.
She mothered eight children and later restarted her professional career as a high school math teacher at Acton-Boxborough Regional High School. Her interests beyond mathematics included swimming, genealogy, the Boston Red Sox, Peyton Manning and, of course, visiting and enjoying her 15 grandchildren. Famous for nourishing her can-do attitude with her family, she led by example as she showed all how to work and fight through adversity in life, as she had more than her share of challenges.
She leaves five sons, Timothy F. of Acton, Mass., John D. of Warwick, Thomas A. of Norwich, Conn., Patrick C. of Fitchburg, Mass. and Christopher F. Doyle of Preston, Conn.; two daughters, Kristine Doyle-Turner of Humarock, Mass. and Hannah J. Kauffman of Dunellen, N.J.; a sister, Betsy Butler of East Greenwich; 15 grandchildren and a great-grandchild on the way. She was the mother of the late Terence R. Doyle and sister of the late Richard Eichenfeldt and Dorothy Butler.
Her funeral will be held July 13 from Stapleton-Barry-Holdredge Funeral Home, 684 Park Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Kevin Church, 333 Sandy Lane, Warwick.
