Raimondo to promote financial literacy at Warwick Library

Posted

On May 7, Rhode Island General Treasurer Gina M. Raimondo will deliver the opening remarks at a financial literacy event at the Warwick Public Library from 7 to 8 p.m.

Raimondo announced the start of a financial empowerment library tour for Financial Literacy Month on Monday. The tour will help Rhode Islanders learn about personal financial management, covering topics such as credit scores, debt and budgets.

“My office is always looking for innovative ways to help Rhode Islanders become financially empowered,” said Raimondo in a press release. “This program brings free financial education directly to our neighborhoods through local libraries. By providing a place for people to safely learn about their finances, I believe we can move our state forward one person at a time.”

Volunteers and staff from Capital Good Fund, a nonprofit organization that provides personal financial coaching, will also be on-hand for the presentation. Attendees can sign up for free coaching after the event.

Capital Good Fund has partnered with the Treasury for the Rhode Island Financial Coaching Corps. According to the press release, the Corps, a program from the Treasury’s Empower RI initiative, aims to “match volunteers with financial skills and know-how with Rhode Islanders looking to learn how to make their money work for them.”

The presentation is part of the Warwick Library’s Home Economics series, “Get on the Road to Financial Stability.” Registration is recommended; contact Jessica D’Avanza at 739-5440 for more information. Individuals can also sign up at www.warwicklibrary.org.
