Raymond P. Foley, Sr., 93, of Howland Avenue bid his final “Foley Farewell” on April 11, 2014, at his home with his family by his side. He was the husband of Agnes M. (Olson) Foley. He was predeceased by his wife, Rachel (Rattey) Foley in 1956.

Born in Cranston, a son of the late Edward J. and Margaret (Kelly) Foley, Sr. At the age of sixteen, Ray went to work at Hope Dental Lab in Providence. With many other jobs in between, he then went to work for the Narragansett Electric Company from 1951-1982, holding the positions as a ground man, control operator and a switchman. . Somewhere, between raising his growing family and working to support them, he managed to study for his GED and proudly received his High School Equivalency Diploma in 1960. In 1955 he built his home in Warwick where he lived and raised his loving family.

He was a World War II Navy veteran (1942-1944) stationed out of Newport, RI. He proudly served our country, becoming a member of the Great Generation. He was a gunner out of Little Creek, Virginia on the Arizonian. He traveled to North Africa, Casa Blanca and Oran. Upon his return, he went to the Medical Corps School in Bainbridge, Maryland and served as a hospitalman at Quantico. He then transferred to fleet marine force at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He was a past commander of the D.A.V. Post 1. He also received the American Campaign Medal, the Rhode Island Guard Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

He leaves two sons, Raymond P. Foley, Jr. of Warwick and Brian F. Foley and his wife, Judy of Mansfield, Massachusetts, two daughters, Susan D. Verville of Foster and Marie T. Ahlert and her husband, Rick of Warwick; a sister, Sr. Kathleen Foley, SND of Springfield, Mass. He was cherished by his seven grandchildren: Michelle Verville-Polkey and her husband, Joseph, Michael Verville and his fiancée, Sarah Fahy, Kathleen Bennett, SRA Carl Bennett, Dana Foley, Rachel Foley and Kimberly Foley. He also has one great-grandchild, Joseph Polkey. He was predeceased by his brothers Thomas J., Edward J., and F. Emmett Foley, sisters Margaret Dorcus and Marion E. Barr and son-in law, Robert Verville.

His funeral will be Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the Frank P. Trainor & Sons Funeral Home, 982 Warwick Avenue, Warwick. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter Church, 350 Fair Street, Warwick at 10 a.m. Calling Hours Monday 4-8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers donations in his memory to the J. Arthur Trudeau Center Residential Program 3445 Post Road Warwick, RI 02886 or Saint Peter Church will be appreciated. Burial with military honors will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. www.trainorfh.com
