Re-Imagined "Joseph..." is sensational at PPAC

I’ve seen Rice and Webber’s “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Raincoat” a couple of times, and enjoyed the low key, pleasant little musical, where children from the audience were invited on stage to hear the familiar Bible story.

I wasn’t that excited about seeing it again, but I was curious about what “re-imagined” meant.

What it meant was one sensational, spectacular musical, filled with bright colors, amazing singing and dancing, and loads of surprises. The new production is creative, imaginative and overpowering, using bright lights, video and projection, and spectacular scene changes all making this musical fly by, with the audience on their feet during the animated finale.

American Idol star Ace Young makes an imposing Joseph, tall, handsome, muscular, and with his unusual voice, he projects the perfect image.

Playing the narrator is his young wife, Diana DeGarmo, another Idol star, bringing her many talents, including her powerful voice, to the musical.

If you like action and movement, you’ll love this roller coaster ride, filled with clever biblical references, snappy songs, intricate choreography and good, plain fun.

“Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Raincoat” is at the Providence Performing Arts Center through this weekend. Get a ticket if you can.
