Elected officials and celebrities turned out Saturday at Warwick Mall to read Doctor Seuss books to a gathering of children as part of the National Education Association Rhode Island Read Across America celebration. The event that started at 10 a.m. and included a raffle ran to 4 p.m. According to Karen Comiskey Jenkins of NEARI, Gov. Gina Raimondo was the first acting governor to participate in the event since it was founded 18 years ago. In addition to the reading, there were displays from the Friends of the Warwick Public Library, William Davies Career and Technical School and NEA groups. Kids also got to make their own cat hats.
