Red for Women festival, luncheon is Friday at Convention Center

More than 700 guests are expected to wear red and celebrate the Go Red For Women movement at the Southern New England Go Red For Women Luncheon this Friday at the Rhode Island Convention Center to raise funds and awareness for the mission of the American Heart Association. The event starts at 10:30 a.m. with the Festival of Red followed by lunch and a speaking program at 1:30 p.m.

The festival features health screenings, cooking demos, educational exhibits, breakout sessions, and fun beauty booths, followed by a heart-healthy lunch, survivor stories, and our keynote address by Adrienne and Stephanie Vendetti, Founders of “How to be Redhead.” Three local women will share their stories of survival at the event including Maddie Cascione from East Greenwich, Donna Daniels from Narragansett and Kristina Hill from Milton, Mass.

The festival and luncheon will be held at the Rhode Island Convention Center, One Sabin Street, Providence.

The 2017 Southern New England Go Red For Women Luncheon is chaired by Melissa Cummings from Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island and Alison Bologna from NBC10 WJAR will serve as the luncheon’s emcee. Adrienne and Stephanie Vendetti, founders of the “How to be a Redhead” lifestyle and beauty brand will be featured as they discuss their connection to heart disease and how two young Rhode Island women launched “How to be a Redhead.”

Last year, the event raised more than $270,000 for the American Heart Association’s lifesaving mission and this year the fundraising goal is set at $300,000. The American Heart Association invests in educational and prevention programs, public policies that promote the well-being of communities across the country and cutting-edge scientific research. In Rhode Island and Massachusetts alone, the American Heart Association funded more than 36.8 million dollars in scientific research related to cardiovascular diseases and stroke in the last year alone.
