Warwick’s Thayer Arena is set to host the 2013 New England Regional Figure Skating Championships beginning October 12. Sanctioned by U.S. Figure Skating, the New England Regional Figure Skating Championships are being hosted by the Warwick Figure Skaters. In addition, Kent Hospital is this year’s presenting sponsor.
“The city is very pleased to welcome participants, coaches and spectators to Warwick for the 2013 New England Regional Figure Skating Championships,” said Mayor Scott Avedisian. “As home to the Warwick Figure Skaters, we are well aware that this event brings together some of our region’s most talented and dedicated athletes for what is sure to be some spirited competition. We wish all of the skaters the best for a successful and memorable weekend. This also provides a wonderful opportunity to showcase the many great qualities of our city and state. I hope our visitors will have time to explore some of what makes the Ocean State so special.”
Skaters will vie for titles in ladies’ and men’s figure skating. The top four skaters in the ladies’ and men's events at each of the nine regional championships will qualify for one of the three sectional championships, with the ultimate goal of competing at the U.S. Nationals in Omaha, Nebraska in January 2013.
Several Rhode Island skaters are among the top competitors featured at the event, including Alizee Ballarin, Sybrinna Allen and Taylor Spinnard of Warwick; Kayla McCarthy of Ashaway; and Daniel Kuyoth of Coventry.
General admission tickets are $10 per person and free for children under 4 years old. All-event tickets may be purchased for $30 per person. Tickets are available to purchase at the registration check-in desk during the event.
