Remember that tie that your grandmother gave you on your birthday – the one you thanked her profusely for, but vowed to never wear in public?
Well, it’s time to pull it out and enter it in the Rhode Island Blood Center’s Ugliest Tie Contest. A panel of celebrity judges will choose the ugliest tie, and the winner will receive a $100 cash prize.
The contest is the centerpiece of the Blood Center’s inaugural Men’s Health Night, an event open to men and women, featuring health information and screenings, a silent and live auction, and a tie swap.
The event is being held on Thursday, Nov. 20, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Rotunda Room at the Crowne Plaza, 801 Greenwich Ave., Warwick. Tickets are $30, but the Blood Center is offering a buy one, get one free discount for the first 50 people who purchase tickets. Tickets can be purchased through the Blood Center’s website at www.ribc.org. There will be light refreshments and a cash bar.
Attendees are urged to bring ties for the tie swap and will have an opportunity to bid on ties that were worn and autographed by local and national celebrities.
Information and health awareness tables will focus on breast cancer in men (Gloria Gemma Foundation); leukemia and lymphoma; organ donation; urology issues; and more. Blue Cross Blue Shield will conduct selected health screenings.
